Engine stops when clutch is released in gear

Hi there. I have a 455 engine that I just replaced the rear main seal. I put the engine back in the car with a new Centerforce clutch and a T-10 manual transmission. Before I lowered the car from the jack stands I started it with no problem and let it idle in neutral. When I put the trans in gear and released the clutch the engine stops. I restarted and gave it more RPM but it still stopped. The car is still in the air and there's no load on the wheels so I'm not sure what's going on. Suggestions?

What year car (70?). All gears 1-4 and reverse this happens? Shift fork(s) broken. Main shaft bearing seized? Pinching or grounding any wires in the z-bar area?

Reverse arm upside down?

I've seen people that put the arm on upside down because they forgot which way it goes back together. It's easier to put it together upside down than the correct way so it's human nature to do it the easiest way.

Even if this isn't what happened you have the transmission in either 2 forward gears or a forward gear and reverse at the same time. I would bet reverse and a forward gear.

Have you tried turning the wheels or driveshaft to see if they are free?
(emergency brake on?)

If it runs in neutral, I'd say it isn't the Z-bar.

Is the rear end hanging down?
(wheels/rear end not supported)

Possibly the drive shaft bound up is so.

Clutch disk installed backwards?

Trans stuck in 2 gears, check the shifter arms.

Trans is in two gears at once like Ted said.

When I'm in neutral the rear wheels do spin. I am thinking that the trans may be in two gears and I need to recheck the linkage. I know the clutch is working correctly. The reverse arm may be upside down. Thanks for the suggestions.
