69 Firebird Cocktail Shakers
 

Does anyone have a photo of the front and rear shakers for a 69 'bird they can post? Please & thanks!

There are many photos of these shakers on 1969 Camaros. Is there anything specific you're looking for? The positioning, bracket, mounting, or finish?

I have photos of the internals too.

Thank you Mike, much appreciated. Your pic confirms I have the correct ones in the rear (unlike the single bracket in the drawing). I'm now trying to locate the front units that are missing. What I specifically need are pic's of the front ones so I know exactly what I'm shopping for.

Me too. Love to see what the guts of these things look like.

Internals of the 1967-1969 cocktail shaker. Weight is 22.5 pounds each, so that's an extra 45 lbs in back, 45 lbs. in front. The center piece is cast iron and very heavy.

I knew a guy that setup a street/strip Firebird convertible. He cut the front shakers open and removed the guts. He cut open the rears and replaced the cast iron piece and spring setup (and fluid) with heavy 50 lb steel weights, then welded them back together, adding 100 lbs of weight in the rear.

Was it a F.A.S.T. car, or did he just like to keep it looking stock? Hope he added subframe connectors, and solid body bushings.

Thank you; it looks like a simple spring/mass system, probably tuned to a specific natural frequency with the spring force supplemented by the internal fluid.

A 69 LeMans hardtop weighs 200 plus pounds more than a 69 Firebird hardtop with the same powertrain and options. A LeMans convertible weighs 50 pounds more than the hardtop LeMans but a Firebird convertible weighs 250 lbs more than the hardtop. So a 69 LeMans and Firebird convertibles weigh the same with the same powertrain and other options. A Custon S convertible weighs 25 pounds less than a Firebird ragtop.

Hard to believe it looking at them but that's what the factory specs say and I have weighed enough cars on drive on scales to confirm it. It's not just the shakers, there is extra bracing in the rockers, the floor pan etc.

btw, a GTO despite what people believe weighs the same as a LeMans apart from the powertrain variance. A 69 Endura bumper weighs the same as the LeMans nose if you include all the components. I've weighed both years ago including the frame brackets and they were the same (GTO didn't have hideaways)

My 69 LeMans convertible weighs 10 pounds more than my 69 GTO convertible. They both are loaded with (A/C, PS, Posi, PDB, PS, PW, posi, duals, 8 track and power antenna etc. The LeMans has 350HO, TH400, power bench seat and the GTO has an M20 but also 400 RAIII, hoodtach, hideaways, power bucket, console, two piece stereo and reclining seat, front and rear shoulder belts.

When you consider all those extra options on the GTO they probably weigh the same 30 odd pounds that having a M20 saves over a TH400.

Great info everyone. I'm still hoping someone can take a pic of the front shakers and post it here. It would even help as a start to have pics taken under the hood of a set that are mounted. Anyone?

Same here. I thought they were full of ball bearings and oil.

I have a set fro the front , but really should be picked up as they are HEAVY !!!I would take $ 150.00 for the set & if I have to ship you will have to pay the cost of the shipping.
