Regulator mounting and fuel line routing
 

Finishing up the front area of the IA/Camaro's fuel system. Generally have mounted my regulator on the water pump area but those cars had heater hoses to take up space.

Looking at NHRA regs I know you can not mount it on firewall I assume the potential issue is flywheel etc exploding and cutting lines but realistically the line has to go in the 6" area to the motor even if not on the firewall and miss Arms, tires etc and run as much on the outside of the frame rail as possible. And to me looks like you can not even use a clamp for the line to the firewall so it is not dangling in the air even if the regulator is on the motor.

I assume return lines have to meet the same regulations.

Car doesn't have fenderwells so not an option there.

Skip, this is how mine is done, just have a strip of aluminum bent in a loop and mounted to fender..

Skip, I have used one of these 1973-79 Pontiac V8 Lower A/C Compressor Bracket #491877 cast iron brackets that bolts on to the right cylinder head several times in the past. Out of the way, a very strong mount, (no issues with crash), mounts on the right side of the engine where the Chebby fuel lines typically are.

I make one additional piece that is a regulator bracket that mounts the regulator but with the simple removal of the two bolts on the upper part of the bracket allows the regulator to slide out of the way.

So here are some pictures where the line goes by the flywheel area. Outside the frame the tire can rub it on a hard turn. Factory ran the line on top of the frame. Last one is through the fenderwell.
The way I read the rules they expect all lines outside the frame in that area also.
And yes a SBC is in it now.

Doesn't it say outside frame rail OR through a pipe on inside?

I think it does but realistically that area is pretty darned tight even fitting pipe big enough to run the line through I'm not sure if it would fit.

I used to run mine outside frame until well forward of flywheel (come up just behind A-arms clear of anything moving) then up to regulator. Mount regulator to fender or fender well away from heat/moving parts. Try to run line(s) to carb in a way that fuel (from a loose connection etc) cant drip on header or a broken belt cant snatch or damage it.

I have run fuel line in engine bay under upper control arm brackets after coming up and over top of frame from outside. Also kept it outside of frame until just forward of control arm, then over top of frame. Just be sure control arm cant interfere with line.
