Fold Down rear seat installation help needed.
 

Good morning all, I am trying to gather information on a fold down rear seat for a 69 Firebird convertible, well actually gathering everything to do so. If someone can provide some nice clear photos of how it is installed and specifically the hinge points, the latch assembly, etc… it would be of great help. I have the upper and lower seat assembly and the hinges that are attached to the upper section, I bought the latch assembly from AMES along with the floor braces/mounts and rubber bumpers and cardboard trunk divider. What else do I need ? Where/how do the hinges mount, to what and how, is the upper seat back totally independent of the seat bottom (not attached in any way ?) Never owning a fold down before I am a little bit perplexed on what all is necessary and would like to have everything on hand when the time comes to install. Thank You for any and all help guys.

It's not 69, but 68. But should hopefully have some info that is useful:

If you read all the way through this link, you will find everything you need: I've installed three of them now, and they are very simple. Note that '67 is different than '68-'69 regarding the latch and clip. As far as your question about the seat bottom, that mounts the same as the non fold down seat. Only the upper part is hinged and latched. There are dimples in the floor sheet metal that the hinges fit into, so not much concern about getting them in the right spots.

Oh, and a '67 divider is different than '68-'69, but some suppliers only sell '67 and advertise as all three years. '67's have a notch in both top corners. '68-'69 should only have a notch in the passenger top corner.

ive done over a dozen...with no instructions...the floor pan is read to accept all the brackets and hinge etc...you just have to mock it up..measure twice...the latch/striker is unique..and back then not available...i imagine you can get it all now...and honestly, with the stuff posted...its wont be that bad...the first one i did took all day i was worried..lol..the rest..3 or 4 hrs...pretty simple really, dont be intimidated...its easy

The convertible divider is different from the hardtop divider too, but many of the vendors list one size fits all. The convertible is about an inch deeper.

I've got the entire rear seat out of my car. It has a fold down rear seat from the factory and it's a 68 convertible. If you still need photos, please send me a PM with your email address and let me know exactly what you need photos of. It may take up to a week before I have time to take the photos.

Did you have to buy factory parts to do these conversions? Can you put in a fold down seat using reproduction parts?

Only some of the parts are repopped at this time.

You would likely need donor seats as a basis. The fgf thread lists what parts are and are not repopped.

Well, I started the installation project. The AMES/PY reproduction floor braces fit the floor contour really well but they do not fit the contour of the seat hinges at all. Can someone post a picture of the seat hinge when it is engaged in the floor brace. Is it supposed to match the hinge too ? The floor brace follows the floor well, the seat hinge is similar in contour but the floor brace is not even close to the hinge assembly, which one is wrong, the seat hinge does not appear to be damaged in any way. I forgot to take pictures to share but will do so next weekend when I can get back at it. Thank You.
