Gas situation in the Southeast
 

Ever since the problem of the fuel supply-line in Alabama was announced a few days ago, we've had a run on gas buying and now have the shortages we were warned of.
Most stations in the region are out of gas or probably will be by the end of today.
It's predicted to impact the Carolina's, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Virginia.
Just wondering how many are seeing shortages already.
And if you're traveling to Charlotte next weekend for the Autofair, have a good fuel range just in case.




And please resist getting political.

It does show how fragile the distribution system is. I paid $1.89 for regular last Thursday in Cleveland. That's the first fuel I have purchased under $2.00 in years. No shortage here, yet.

I just came through GA,TN and KY last week. No supply problems, but prices were a bit higher than reported on Gas Buddy. This could explain WHY regular unleaded jumped $.14 a gallon between yesterday morning and the afternoon.

Not an issue here yet, but I have noticed prices creeping up while oil is going down.

It started Friday afternoon. The run in town emptied every single gas station by this morning. I can't get gas in any station. Fortunately I've got 200 miles worth in the truck's tank plus 3 gallons of gas in the shed for the lawn mower to put in the wagon if I need it.

The worst part is the only reason there's a shortage is because people on social media started a panic. Supplies would have been fine had people not filled up several 5gal cans each!

$2.15 fill up yesterday (Sat).

Today (Sun) noticed $1.89 and across the street $2.29 for a $.40 diff. Hmmmm

I went to my rental house today just east of Charlotte, about a 120 mile trip. About 8 out of 10 gas stations in the smaller towns were out of gas. Those with gas had long lines. I was able to fill up not far from my house near Raleigh, but the price went up about $.10 per gallon.

Many stations ran out here and some stations tried to gouge with $3.00/gal (which gouging is illegal in TN). Drove back from east of Asheville, NC Friday with no problems though with prices or shortage. Mostly a problem with people panicking and filling everything.

The local news reported Friday that gas prices would go up by about 10 cents a gallon. That was after one of the gas station owners had already raised his price 34 cents from $1.91 to $2.25 for regular unleaded!
I went by a station Saturday morning to gas up my GTO with high test enroute to a car show. They were out of 93 octane but still had 87. I rode about two blocks to another station and filled up with 93. It was $2.76 a gallon.

There was some gouging in NC as well. I filled up Friday for $1.98, paid $2.05 on the way back. I saw some stations that had gas charging $2.50 - $2.90 per gallon. Most stations didn't bump price much, but sold old. The higher priced stations had gas.

Not in your part of the country but the prices you all are paying are just shocking. My rigs take premium and our local stations have been around $3.099 for most of summer. Get into a bigger town and its $2.89 or so.

I began topping off Friday night. That one has a 600 mile range. Saturday morning topped off another, this morning another. Same station and the price has stayed at $2.13 during that time. Each visit the lot was more congested, today with waiting cars overflowing into the street.
I figure we can get at least 1400 miles, so no worries here for a while.
As to the gouging, an independently owned station near my house was at $2.60 all day today. Everyone else kept the previous prices of $2.13-$2.16 posted.

Gas jumped from a moderate low of 2.02 Friday morning to 2.15 later when I was heading home from work. The lowest was 1.97 and it's still at 1.97. What's up with this?

Over just across the river in NJ gas was 1.71 Friday and Saturday. I checked today and it's only up to 1.79, and 1.77 at the station I do get gas at when I'm in NJ. Not a big jump in prices but still worth the trip over for gas..... even with the 4.00 toll for the Delaware Memorial Bridge coming south heading back home.

Not sure if this is true or not but someone said the pipeline was shut down someplace out west just out side of one of the Indian Reservations by the local Tribe. And the pipeline is not on the Reservation.

Around Atlanta the bigger/nicer stations are out like QT and Racetrac. The smaller stations are falling off one by one but the prices are all the same $2.49 and that is up from $2.05 around here. Anytime there is a problem and they raise the price .01 it is gouging no matter how you look at it. They said not to panic as it will be back to normal by the end of the week. We will see about that.

I'm here in MI. & the gas went up about .30 cents the same day they said there was a problem with the pipeline. I'm right on the MI. IN. state line & if you were to go across the state line the gas was still 1.99 or 1.98 depending on the stations. But buy Sat. all the stations had jumped on the band wagon & were all up to the 2.30 or 2.35 range. Were not effected by the pipeline up here but when any time they can get more they do. Most of the stations around here are corp. owned & all they do is get on the phone from the HQ's & tell them to raise the prices. They don't care it's just greed.

An update. The pipeline in North Dakota broke and is now being repaired. That's another reason for the gas shortage in certain areas and the price increases.

I still say there's a conspiracy going on to keep prices high and supply low. You can't blame everything on the Arab oil producing countries.

I paid $1.99 late yesterday afternoon, that's up from $1.82 at the same pump last week. Colonial is building a bypass around the leak that should be done in the next couple of days.

I'm not generally a conspiracy theorist but down here the price jump and shortage is being blamed on a broken pipeline in AL. and now there are shortages in Delaware and Michigan being blamed on a Pipeline break in N.D. ?

Not sure how far the distribution lines run up the east coast from TX, LA and AL but Delaware and Michigan? Something's fishy I say.

I was down in Charlotte for the Carolina Nationals last week. Price jumped $.20 per gallon at the station a half mile from my hotel just up the hill from the ZMaxx Dragways.

I live NW of Atlanta. Pumps are dry. On Saturday it took me a little while to find fuel, went to 5 different locations and hit gold on the 5th. I think this morning the only place I know of that has fuel is Race Track. The place I got fuel on Saturday said they when they go dry it won't be until maybe Friday before they get more.
