LS swap in 66 A body
 

Might not be the correct place to put this but it is 66 A body specific.
Has anyone done an LS swap in a 66 GTO?
If so what obstacles etc?
Not looking for a debate just real life info

I know-- but I have flown the Pontiac Flag and have raced Pontiacs since the late 80's.
Been one of the last Pontiacs running in NMCA NSS class for the last 13 years.
Haved raced many Pontiacs in different classes. From a 455 Powered Sunbird, 1LE Formula SS Car, 73 Formula Firebird.


Getting hard to justify the expenses to compete in this class with availability of parts (IE 2x4 intakes, blocks, carbs)

New class for GM cars-
Sealed GM performance parts LS DR525, 55-up GM Body, heads up, pro tree.
Be cheaper to swap to LS power than build new car.

You can find LS swap mounts at DSE (Detroit Speed & Engineering). Holley/Hooker also makes LS swap headers for your application, their "Blackheart" series in mid length and long tube also in stainless. Dirty Dingo also makes a LS swap mount. You have many options for this swap application. Check out the "Lateral G.com" forum & the "Pro Touring.com" forum as well, tons of information for you on these. Speartech.com is who you can trust for your wire harness and computer re-flash. They can rework your original engine harness or build you a new one. Mike This is a relatively easy swap. I did it in my 64 Tempest and am going to do it in my 65 Lemans this winter. Lots of options out there for mounts, exhaust, fuel systems, etc. I used BRP hotrods mounts and headers in the 64 but am going to use adapter plates and chevy SB mounts this time to cut costs. Will build trans mount based on the BRP mount in the 64. Here is a link to BRP if you want to check their offerings. If I can help in any way let know.

Best system on the market for LS swaps is made by Holley. They are about to release the early a-body parts.

Just did this at a shop up in Baldwin (Cornelia), GA. They finished the car one day and the next day he drove it to Seattle, Washington without a hiccup. PM me if you want any more info.

LS3 in my 66 GTO. Search my post out here, LS1 tech and pro-touring forum ...ask questions...as Andrew said, Holley is in the game with a kit that takes the guess work out. I did mine before the kit existed so you can price each out and decide which way to go.

Pretty straightforward actually. Change the radiator and use electric fans, upgrade your wiring to handle the demands of the fuel pump and fans and provide clean power to your ECM.
