716 / 538177 / 548232 / 543797 head hardened seat size
 

What diameter/depth hardened seat is used on 1962/63/64 heads? Working on 716 / 538177 / 548232 / 543797 castings.

IIRC, the bowl ID is 1.530". I could be wrong on that, but if so, you could use an SB1687-17 J-Loy seat which has a 1 1/2" ID, a 1.687 OD, and 7/32" deep. If the ID of the bowl is different, measure it and report back, and I can find a better fitting seat for you. I don't have any of those heads here right now to measure.

The Exh ports on those heads leave a lot to be desired flow wise, so be sure to pick a seat who's ID will not choke off the stock throat in the valve bowl.
If need be you can use a stone to open up the new seats ID some , but don't go under .200" in wall thickness!

I have to dig out my bills, but I think in the passed I have used a Tucker seat #T2848 for these heads?

I probably should have split this question up since 716s are 1.92/1.66 factory and the others are 1.88/1.60 factory. Getting bowl IDs today.

Looking for 1.94/1.65 Chevy valves that might work in the 7/16s. 1.94/1.60 in the other heads maybe? Anyone do this and have part numbers? Plan is to use Comp 995 springs on all.

I was assuming you where just looking for Exh seats for a 1.66" valve.

If I can get 1.66" valve seats in a factory 1.60" valve head, then that is helpful information.

The 538177 head measured 1.380" ID.

Much smaller than I thought.

If you're going to run a 1.600" valve, then the seat you want is a J-loy number SB1625-1 or SB1625-2. The difference is the -1 is 7/32" deep, which is the depth I prefer, as it gives you another depth to go to later if needed. The -2 seat is 1/4" deep. Both are 1 5/8" O.D., and 1 3/8" I'D.

If you plan on running a valve larger than 1.600", then you will need an SB1687-5[1.687"x1.375"x .218"], or an SB1687-7[1.687"x1.375"x.250"]

The machine shop used 30677 Durabond Valve Seats for the exhaust on my '716' heads.

Exhaust valves - 6001SG S.I. Stainless - 1.660" x 4.970".

We used readily available 1.96" and 1.66" stainless valves with .100" longer stems, with the heads cut down to 1.93" and 1.645" respectively to eliminate any possible valve head to valve head interference. The original valve sizes were 1.923" and 1.663" according to factory specs. There's simply no room to enlarge the valve sizes, they're just too close together.

Probably going with Ferrea F5040 and F5048 valves (995 springs) on 716s and a single 177 head. I'll expect to cut the heads down. Thanks for the tip!
