Safe tire size with 15x7s
 

I plan on going to 17s eventually, but for now I went with good enough and bought a decent driver set of 15x7 Rally IIs from a mid 70s formula.

What is my ideal tire size? I assume a 60 but the question is probably 225-60 or 235-60. I think I read somewhere in a google search that the 235s are fine for some and rub for others?

if I upgraded the suspension and dropped the car an inch or so would that make the 235s more of a problem?

I got a $200 gift card for Pep Boys so let me know what I should be looking for when I go.

I would go with 215-70 in the front and a 235-245 in the rear

225-60-15 fronts 235-60-15 rears. You can go as big 255-60-15's rears,

I've done 255-60's on the rears before, but they look a little bloated. Running 235's on 15x7 Cragars now. Running 215-60's up front.

235/60 all around is a slam dunk, 245 or 255 rear if you like.

I dont really want the staggered look at the moment. So I think Ill take the slam dunk. I just didnt want to buy 235s in front to find out they rub.

Here's a '69 that belongs to my brother, it has factory 15X7 Rally IIs all around with 235/60-15s.

The '69 has a more restrictive wheel opening compared to a '68 so you will have no problems going to the 235/60s.

Only gripe is the selection seems to be super limited at 235-60-15. Oddly enough 225 70 has a bunch of options. Maybe that was a popular small truck tire. Pep Boys website is kinda wonky. Im going to go into the store and see if they can order what I want.

I still haven't bought yet. I got a $200 gift card at pep boys so I want to use them but their selections are crap at 235. 225 you have a world of choice.

I wasn't planning on going staggered but since I did the disc swap on the it relocated the wheels 3/8 farther out in the front. So I was thinking of going with a slighly wider wheel in the back to compensate.

All the 235 and 245 options at Pep Boys aren't discount eligible. Which is frustrating.

Summit has good pricing on cooper cobras. So I was thinking about buying tires from Summit. And then using the $200 card for a front desk no alignment and maybe a brake job on the rear drums. I know nothing about drum brakes.
