Red Line Tire Usage on 69 GP
 

My 69 GP was built in early October of 1968 and the document containing option content for the VIN that I received way back in the mid-80's from Pontiac Customer Service says "G78x14 R/LIN" with a Suggested Retail Price of $40.02 (Code IRC). Am I correct in reading this as factory installed red lines? It currently has raised white letter BF Goodrich Radial T/A's P235/70R x 14 that are at least 20 years old and due to their age I plan on replacing them soon. I believe I read on another posting that with the exception of maybe some late production Trans Am's no Pontiacs in the 1969 model year were available with raised white letter tires. While I've had blackwalls on it before I'd like to go with what it originally had.

I've only seen a handful of '69 GP invoices that came with the optional redline tires... pretty cool! Absolutely, factory installed. I would go with the G70x14 redlines myself for a better look.

That's the size I plan to get. With the burgundy paint, black cordova top, black interior and 14x7 Rally II wheels, the red lines should look great.

Redlines look great and complement any body color.

Elkhart County, about the middle of the Northern border. Seven miles from the Michigan border.

Just curious as to what brand of red lines you have? Belted or radial? Would you buy them again?

I have BF Goodrich Silvertown Radials from Coker Tire on my GP. P225 70R14s.
I really like the ride and control and would probably buy them again. It's hard enough to find 14 in. tires now and when you do they aren't cheap.

Those are the tires I've been looking at. Have given serious consideration for upgrading to 15x7 rally II wheels first. I know that the center cap and lug nuts are common between the 14x7 and 15x7 rally II wheels but I haven't found a 15x7 inch trim ring that has the same appearance as the 1969 GP 14x7. Seems like only 15x6 trim rings are available or 15x7 with the newer model year (1973?) rounded appearance. Anyone found any? If not I'll just stay with the 14x7 rally II's wheels and rings.

I personally would stick with the 14" rims and go with these new Coker redline radials that look like original to the 69 Grand Prix belted redline but are now radial tire.
The G70-14 will fill up your wheel well nicely and have no issues.
