Oil pressure light on and noisy
 

I got the Bird out to drive around here in Indy the past couple of nice days, everything was running fine.

Today I changed the oil & filter (6 qts. Valvoline 10-W40 + NAPA Gold filter). I always pre-fill the filter with oil as well. When I started it up the oil pressure light came on and the right bank lifters are very noisy suddenly.

I am afraid to run it now. Any ideas what could have happened? A piece of dirt or sludge loose causing a blockage somewhere?

Should I try some kerosene engine flush?

That happen to my engine on the dyno ran the first pull to 6000 with 80+ psi all good. Let it sit for a couple minutes then when we start up 10psi no better so im thinking the new motor is toast. The guy running the dyno tells me he has seen this before that he thinks something is stuck in bypass. So we remove distributor run pump clockwise with drill reinstall distributor and psi was good 25 at idle and 80+ 0n all the other pulls. Motor has been in car for 5 years now and has never done it again. You could remove the filter housing from block and just look at it clean if needed that way you would not need to remove distributor. It wont be hard to remove unless you have A/C

Thanks, I will try that. I had the filter adapter off the block last season to install a new gasket as the old one leaked.

Guess I should order another gasket too.

It happened to me once with a wix filter. I replaced it and everything was fine. I'd try that first.

No Fram filter hopefully?

I always use NAPA Gold (WIX) or genuine WIX filters and buy by the case off of Amazon.

I let the car cool down a few hours and when I came back to restart it the oil light went off and the lifter noises were reduced.

I started it again today and drove around the block, it seems normal again, nice and smooth, no valvetrain noises at all.

It could have been some sludge/dirt that the detergents in the new oil finally dissolved. Does that sound plausible? Maybe I should change the filter again just in case.

Thats great self healing cars are the best. It could have had something in it.
