Cheater Slicks For The Cat
2 Attachment(s)
Been contemplating running vintage piecrust slicks for the past couple of years. I dig the Stocker Look. I was always worried about them fitting or getting caught on wet roads. Well I decided to place an order for 28.5x8"with Towel City. I chose the shoulder groves. I'll get these mounted later next week. Should fit, same width as my 235/70 and only .5" taller in dia. More photos to follow after I mount. Does anybody here on PY run slicks on their B Body?

I have never seen them on a big car
|
Can't wait for a report on these, Tim!
I have a pair of '60s re-caps - when I get to them I will measure and photo them. I think they are ~8.5" width. |
Hey Tim, bet they will be lookin good......what year is your car?

Had a set of cheaters when I raced my 64 GTO. Came a time later when I needed a couple of tires on the rear end for daily driving. Couldn't drive over 50 on wet roads. Hydroplaned uncontrollably.
Watch the weather reports. |

Slicks are going on my 62 Catalina. Mounting them on 7" black steelies currently on car. I'll follow up with a post after getting them mounted. I never drive the car in rain, but am worried about getting caught. Don't know if having the shoulder groves would help much on wet roads compared to not having groves.

As for getting caught in the wet, drive slow & carefully - or get a room and wait out the storm. |
When I was looking for cheater slicks for my 65 almost 10 years ago I looked at ones from Towel City; but at the time the only thing they offered where re-caps. I just didn't trust them for street driving.

I ran M/T cheater slicks on a 1962 Pontiac back in the late 1960's and it could be one scary ride. On a wet road it was like driving on ice.

If your going to a pie crust slick on the street might as well complete the look with BFG Silvertowns on the front. Drive extra carefully which you do because who knows what situation will arise. Put quality gas shocks all around and add a rear bar to enhance the handling. Park it if rain in the forecast.

...shucks...

My buddy swapped and balanced my wheels on the cheater slicks. I mounted last night. It's been raining here. Hope to get a test ride in on Saturday.

I have an ancient set of Goodyear Blue Streak cheater slicks I bought at a swap meet years ago. They're as hard as rocks, but I'd like to get them mounted on a spare set of rims and use them just for shows. |
How are they if you actually raced them?
