I think question came up not long ago. The engine crossmember has sagged to the point that the oil pan is basically resting on the centerlink. I'm going to be getting another frame for it but for now I'm looking for a temporary fix so I can drive it to my class reunion in July. Any suggestions?

Depending how old your rubber engine mounts are, swapping in a fresh pair can make a big difference. As the rubber ages and gets oil soaked, they really start to sag, which can cause the same problem you're describing.

I solved a similar issue on my '72 GT. The mounts were sagging so much the fan was actually rubbing the bottom of the shroud. Fresh mounts cured it, and gave some clearance back between the centerlink and pan. Cheap fix. :whoo:

My 72 Lemans has a similar issue. Soooo close. I wondered if shimming under the frame mounts would help, or maybe massaging the pan just a touch with a wood dowel. My engine mounts are new.

I still can't imagine how that big engine cross member could even sag at all. I seen bad engine mount and body mount rubber cause issues. How do you measure for a sagging engine cross member?

Years ago on the Chevelle site I recall reading some posts about frames that had sagged, seems the big block cars were worse than small block cars and one of the hints that the cross member was sagging was having to use offset upper control arm shafts (MOOG problem solver) to get proper alignment.

There was a measurement taken between the brackets that the upper control arm cross shaft bolts to, and several guys had posted their measurements and the ones with sagged frames were ~ 1-2" shorter than the cars without sagged frames. I also recall some discussion about frame shops that could put the car on a rack and pull the frame back so the sag was gone.
