Stupid Question! How much oil?

I'm sure this is a pretty standard question that has been discussed many times here but how much oil do I need for a full oil/filer change in my '71 Pontiac 350? The guy at the speed shop where I bought the oil said 5 quarts but I keep seeing conflicting info between using 5 qts and using 6 qts. So which is it? Thanks in advance and I apologize for such a simple question!

Usually close to 6 qts with the filter is pretty much standard.

A little extra won't hurt, the only difference between a factory 5 qt or 6 qt pan is the length of the dipstick.

How about to the full mark on the dipstick? :)

Thank you!

Tyler,
I put in 5 1/2 quarts plus a small container of Zinc additive. You need to add this to your car with an Oil change unless you have a Hydraulic roller cam. I use standard oils not the synthetic blends. JMO.

Thanks for the info Jim! The previous owner put a comp cam in it and ran Brad Penn oil in it.

Here is the stuff I bought.....Says there is zinc in there.

Not a stupid question at all. For ten years I ran five quarts with filter in my 70 GTO w a 400 and never had a problem. Fast forward to 08 and my engine builder, Jack Gaydosh says six quarts with filter on my signature 400. So that's what I've been doing with no issues. Oil line is a little past full on the dipstick. I know it's not a 350 but hopefully it helps.
