Best oil pump spring for increase
What is the best choice for an oil pump spring to increase the pressure?. I am switching over to an external feen and would like to see around 55-60 pounds
|
I slightly trimmed a Buick white spring and it sits around 50-55psi. I could shim it with a washer and probably get it up to 60psi. The white spring in a Buick pump is around 70psi.
Unfortunately I don't know where to get just the spring (I looked at a few Buick parts sites). They come in the oil pump kits and the cheapest kits are around $20-$25 with free shipping. You may get away with yanking a spring out of any Buick 231/350/455 at the junkyard and shimming it a bit. They are 40lb springs, but way more substantial than the ones in the OHC. Since the OHC pumps are external, it'd be easy enough to try and if it isn't enough, it's not hard to change out. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Oil-P...3D390972858130 Considering I trimmed the white spring, the green (stock) one isn't that far off visually. A few small washers in the cap to shim it. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...33917255_n.jpg |
If you want a Buick V6 white spring, I should have a left over one laying around. Just pay the shipping charges and I will send one to you.

I am looking for one as well. I will take it if GTOwagon passes.

I did find my extra Buick V6 spring set, so if GTOwagon does not respond by Friday consider them yours.

PM answered, I will get the white spring out to you this weekend.
Bzltyr1 I will look this weekend to see if I have another extra and let you know here what I find. I remember having a couple of them as I have done a couple of Buick 350 & several 231, and one 215 over the years and I tend to be an unorganized pack rat with extra parts. |
Thanks.
I am also putting together a buick 300 with Rover valve covers. I like the ones you had etched. Who did it? |
A friend of mine who has sense passed unfortunately.
