66 Bonneville Vacuum Trunk Release Canister Location
 

Hi,
I am restoring a 66 Bonneville convertible. It originally had a vacuum trunk release, and I have a NOS kit that I am installing. However, the instructions don't say where the vacuum canister is supposed to be installed. Does any one have an idea? Thank you!

And if your wondering, that paint is Iris Mist, a 65 color. This was an early build car with custom paint request!

I have a '66 Grand Prix with the vacuum trunk release. It also has ATC A/C. This might affect things???

My car has TWO Vacuum tank canisters. One larger unit is located on the top of the left hand side (Your drivers side), inner fender. This unit appears to be associated with the ATC A/C.

There is another, smaller tank located up above the glove box under the dash top. From memory, it is about the same size as yours seem to be.

HOWEVER, I need to stress that I have never really followed through how all the vacuum lines are interconnected. I have vague memories from when I have been under there that the smaller tank is connected via a "T" piece into main vacuum line feeding the ATC controls. That might be a bit wrong so please don't take that as gospel.

Thank you! I was going through the forums looking for an answer, and found a thread on the vacuum canisters on a 66 2+2. That car had two canisters under the hood, the large one and one that looked like my canister. I agree, I think the large one is for the ATC. Here is the pic for the second canister in the 2+2, it had it on the inner fender. Is this for the trunk release or the vacuum door lock option?

It would make sense that this one is for the trunk release - I assume the pushbutton goes inside the glove box? That's where it was in my old '71 Catalina.

Yes Stuart, the push button is inside the glove box, closest to the driver and just under the hole for the light.

The vacuum tank (on my car) is directly above it. I only have ONE vacuum tank under the hood.

Yes that is correct, the button is in the glove box. I guess over the glove box is where it will go! Thanks for the help.

Clearly the seller did not know what they had, as that is not for the A-Body models.
I just hope you didn't pay A-Body prices for it ;)

The '66 A-Body unit is VHTF and can be well over priced if you do locate one
I recently installed the '66 (A-Body) Vacuum actuated deck lid release in my Lemans which uses no reservoir can,
very simplistic system. The '67 A-Body was Electric.

Hey Jeff, yes I followed your thread on the install. I'll be getting to mine later in the year. Should be interesting as my vacuum is low at idle (10-12) I thinkbecause of the RAIII cam. But I'll mock it all up outside the car to see if it will work. Maybe it will be done by the Henderson show, but you probably wont be there 2 years in a row :)
