Correct Parts 71 Formula
Replacing missing and wrong parts on my 71 HO Formula and could use some help.
Missing AC bracket that the dip stick bolts too. Is this a HO part or can I get one off any 71 AC Firebird? Car has a flex fan I would like to get the correct clutch fan. I can't seem to find a part number for the fan? Is this also going to be a HO Part? I also would like to get the correct date coded alternator.....I see some HO's with the "Open Face" and some that are not. Should all HO's have the open face? Thanks, for any help |
The alternator is not HO specific. With AC you would have a 1100928 55A alternator. These were open face through April 71 date codes then went closed face starting with May 71 date codes. What is the build date of your car?
|
So my build date is first week of July......if I use a May build date alternator will it be correct?
Todd |
the original "927" & "928" alts cycled over from being built with open frame frt hsg to closed frame hsgs in mid May of '71. Have pulled a bunch of "928"s over the years off of original '71's & '72's. Believe Steve V had a 1E20 dated "928" for sale, if your Formula is a Norwood build, a late May built alt would be correct.
On the fan, it's an early 2nd Gen Firebird V8 AC usage fan, A-B-G series use a slightly larger diam, something the eBay hacks don't seem to care about in their product listings. Have prob 6-7 dozen boxes of original fans cycling there way to my building, all have been stored in beef boxes standing up. |
Could Todd's have been the 80 Amp by any chance? He said A/C but could there be more to the story? Possibly power windows or electric rear window defroster (grid in the glass, not blower in the deck) also? Any other combinations that would get you that setup? The 80 Amp alternators were not open face.
Just wondering... Chad |
If grid type rear defroster with factory AC, yes would take a "1015", specific alt brackets, & idler pulley setup. Def a tough to find 1015 alt core, as very early usage, hope that's not the circumstances Todd is dealing with.

A/C and Power windows will get you into a 1015 Alternator as well ( 80 amp)
|
Hope to get the 1E20 from Steve V. My car do's have 24 options but no power windows or rear defrost.
Thx Todd |
Todd - The rear AC bracket is an HO only part that isn't currently reproduced. Barry at Sonic Motors in Detroit reproduced some years ago and as of last weekend at the TA Nats still had a few left. Google him up and give him a call.
