correct torque converter
 

have a 76 firebird .. with an Olds 455, Comp cam, Olds heads with some work, headers, .400 HP est....tci street fighter turbo 400 ..4:10 gears .. 3500 stall

going to get rid off 4:11's ..and converter and go about 3:50 rear gear.. 15" tires .. looking for some opinions for the correct torque converter for this .. street car maybe a day at the track ...thanks..

Depends on cam and intended use of car. Post cam specs.

15" tires leaves a lot of leeway as to there height, so please also post the actual tire size.
Also what Intake Manifold is on the motor?

..... Edelbrock performer intake / headers....tires 27" .. NO cam card ..just said its a roller cam , he bought it as is ..why people don't pass on the cam card is beyond me.. I tape a copy to the glove box door.. car runs great with the setup in it now.. just too much gear for the street for me

The Olds make TQ similar to a 455 Pontiac, so I would say dropping back to 3.42 to 3.23 gears and a 2500 stall Converter should do ya!

Dispite it being called a 3500 Converter in there now what diameter is it and what does it flash to when the fluid is up to temp?
You may just beable to send it out and get the stall speed lowered and save some bucks!

Stall may change with diff gears, if you are cost conscience, and don't mind sneaking up on it, try the one you have first, then see where you are.

Would be really good to know the cam specs, if you're not opposed to doing so, pull the cover and gear and look at the stamping on the nose of the cam, then look it up. It will help with tuning in several different areas.

I used to like the TH-350 convertor in the 400 trans. Usually would use one out of a generic Firebird or some such similar vehicle. Cheap and reliable too.
