Another M/T creation

From mac's Motor City garage.
M/T project from circa 1962 featuring a twin-supercharged Pontiac V8 with an unusual breathing arrangement, to say the least: The intake and exhaust ports are on the same side of the cylinder heads. But there was actually some method to the madness, as we will see.
A pair of GMC blowers mounted outboard and driven by Gilmer belts. This seems to be somewhere in the mockup phase, and the cylinder heads definitely appear to be new aluminum castings rather than modified Pontiac production pieces. Note: There’s an extra cylinder head on the floor at lower left in the photo that can give us a clue as to what this engine is all about.
This detail enlargement provides*a better look at the M/T cylinder head arrangement. We can see that yes, the intake passages have been rotated 180 degrees so now they are on the same side of the head as the exhaust ports.
While it seems counterintuitive to jam the intake and exhaust ports together on the same side of the head in this manner, evidently there was some sensible logic behind it. By flipping the intake ports around to the “back side” of the head, now they no longer had to snake around the pushrods and the top, inside row of long head bolts. The intake ports could now be shorter and straighter with minimum resistance to airflow. In theory, anyway.
There was also a naturally aspirated version of M/T’s contrary V8 using a pair of Carter AFB four-barrel carburetors. Since the conventional V8’s cylinder firing sequence would create some carburetion problems with this arrangement, it’s possible that a 180-degree crankshaft, aka flat crank, was used. This would transform the Pontiac V8 into two separate-but-equal inline four-cylinder engines on a common crankshaft.

Cool. But I'd think not for a car with fenders. Unless it was a really wide "Wide Track Pontiac".

Thanks for the pictures. I'd never seen the picture of those heads unblown. Was it '62 when he reportedly had the twin-blown V8 at the Indy Nationals? If so, I surprisingly missed seeing it there. Of course that's somewhat understandable, what with him being so busy with Pontiacs that year- trying to iron out the twin-215 V8s dragster (single front-mount blower) and taking Top Eliminator with the Pontiac hemi dragster.

Not mentioned above is the other attraction of these heads on a blown car- visibility.

Tom- not long ago when I called George he didn't mention having more than the one pair of those heads.

He had 2 sets at Norwalk, can't believe he sold any.Tom

You're probably right Tom. Looking back at messages, I see he merely referred to "still having the heads".

I thought the twin blown Pontiac at the Indy nationals was Eddie Hills car

Eddie Hill definitely ran the '61 Indy Nationals, but I can't remember if he also did in '62. I wish had been into taking more pictures back then, but I was usually "travelling light"- rode the 600 miles to Indy in '61 on a borrowed '49 Harley!

Although I didn't see Mickey's dragster with the outboard-intake heads, there is a photo of it (posted on some thread here?) supposedly taken at one of those Nationals- either '61 or '62.

The twin-Pontiac dragster of Mickey's had a pair of the BOP aluminum 215 c.i. engines (one with Pontiac heads and the other with Buick heads). The engines were in-line with a 6-71 in front, ducted over-the-top to both engines. He had high hopes for it, but it needed more development. On the other hand he (and his whole crew) were quite surprised at the success of the hemi dragster.
