Candidate for a mercy killing car!

I don't know about a mercy killing. It has been rode hard and put up wet. Will take the right person with a lot of time AND money.

Amazingly poor condition for a 'one owner' car. Too bad it was let go. No way would I be interested in anything this far gone.....its a parts car to me. I guess I am spoiled and biased, being in CA and owning CA rust free cars to begin with, though.

That thing is rough. I have seen better for less.

I did see one 64 GTO rougher (no tree growing inside). Guy wanted $2,000 basically for the Trim tag and VIN tag. REAL POS.

The EBAY vehicle does have a bunch more value in PARTS.

Does anyone have an idea what the "E" stands for after HH in the Color Code?

It would be for the wheel paint color.
Probably blue in this case?

Frame is most likely shot, which makes it a parts car in my book. Life is just too short...

I swapped out my frame after it was a Michigan vehicle for 10+ years with a Georgia frame I located. My the body on my convertible was in 10 times better shape vs the one in the ad.

I had Tiemann swap out the floorboards only because I got them NEW in a trade with Tom Jeffers who made very high quality steel body parts and thew car was a convertible and had one small hole behind the front seat. You can fix anything if you are willing to throw cash at the project. Look at all of the early street rod guys "SUPER CUBIC MONEY BUILD" CARS. If you buy it, do it for YOURSELF and no one else.

That's what I thought but I do not see an "E" color code on the chart for '64 Tempest.

I was told as a young lad that some people have dollars than sense. And I still believe it.

The Wheel Color codes can be found in the December 19, 1963 revision of the '64 Tempest Inspector's Guide. There were 6 different Wheel Colors used in '64.

Most builds got Code A Regent Black painted wheels.

Code E was Yorktown Blue painted wheels.

The Wheel Color codes were NOT the same as the Body Color codes with the exception of Black (Code A although for Body Color it was called Starlight Black instead of Regent Black) and Singapore Gold (Code T in both cases).

There were many more standard Body Colors than Wheel Colors, so for example, Cameo Ivory, Silvermist Gray, and any of the Red Body Colors, all got Regent Black Code A painted wheels regardless of whether they were optioned with full wheel discs or standard hub caps.

Surprised at the lack of love for this '64 GTO. There is NO '64 GTO that I don't go gaga over, this one is no exception. I know I would love it if it was nicely restored.

Originally retailed by Jack W. Haupt Pontiac in Clarkston, MI. Michigan winters would have been hard on a daily driver. This one was probably pretty rusty by the time the calendar flipped to 1970.

The ebay ad says 1 Owner, but that owner was the "previous" owner. By that definition, my GTO is also 1 Owner, and there have been 3 previous owners between me and the original owner, not counting the original retailing dealer and 2 intermediary dealers who took it in trade.

Is it worth the reserve? Depends what the flipper/seller needs for it, but hopefully the buyer has the 6 figure budget to restore it nicely. The purchase price will have a somewhat modest impact on the eventual cost.

I prefer converts so not really my cup of tea. This was a pretty late '64 if that floats your boat. And fairly low option aside from the Safe-T-Track, 4 spd, and Tripower if "low option" is your preference in GTOs. Looks to have the vac stuff for the carbs. Original Tilt Column and Custom Sports Steering Wheel would have significant value.

Sure you could buy one turnkey, but what's the fun in that??!! I hope whoever winds up with it shows up here. I'll be cheering them on to restore it to glory.

I still think it's a neat car. Clarkston, MI is only a couple miles away from my old house. Definitely not a kind climate for year round driving.

Neat if you like yard art. It would be "neat" if it was a totally un-touched original. It would still be a very rough car, perhaps parts car, but it would be neat.
