'79 Firebird Exhaust Hanger
1 Attachment(s)
I will be replacing a blown header gasket soon and figure it's good time to try and get the mufflers tucked up tighter to the floor. My plan is to cut the tail pipe a few inches above the 90* upturn on the exit side of mufflers, then expand the upper section of the cut and slip fit the lower section (the section that has the 90*) essentially raising the exhaust (dual exhaust so same procedure for the other side).
My question is there a need for a hanger between header and tailpipe? If yes, where and what type? Note that my existing setup which has been has hangers using the front seat belt bolts but it creates some interior vibration which I'd like to get rid of. |
I have some of the rubber strap that bolt under the muffler clamp and then bolted to the floor pan kick up there where the back of the rear seat is.
|
Thanks Skip, do you have a pic of these straps?
|
Next weekend I'll be at the shop and try and get some-agility dog show this weekend.
|
Ok, a dog pic will do for know.
|
Hey Skip, how did the dog show go? Any opportunity to take those exhaust hanger pics?
|
Had to ice here last week that messed things up. Houston city depts do not know how to deal with it and for sure drivers do not. I promise I'l get one!
Dog show good and bad one good run, one we dropped bars and went over the wrong jumps. |
Yea well I live in the great white north and we get plenty of snowy, icy days yet most drivers still don’t know how to manage it.
No worries whenever you have the chance to post a pic of it, thanks. |
Here are a few form the Camaro. I have similar ones on the 81. The 78 I modified some clamps and bracket up in the hump where a transverse muffler fits. Too tight to get pictures of the 78 I think there was a thread here awhile back on repop of the rubber brackets for up there.

Hanger still in place on Camaro.
|
Thanks Skip.
Gonna try to find as spot to hang it from the muffler inlet side so its not visible when viewev from the back. |
You can also tie it up in the hump where the transverse muffler would be. There are a pair of threaded holes(5/16) each side for that.

Never noticed, will take a closer look at this area as it may be a better location.
thx. |
