Here's a wood plane I built itbworksbpretty good. Got the iron at a flea market , an old Stanley sweetheart from no 7 Stanley plane.
The wood is red oak as far as I can tell, I used a piece of an old barn beam for the wood. Since I can't leave well enough alone I decided to try my hand at carving. Not too bad ..

Nice work Pete. Tried my hand at carving years ago - wasn't very good. I could do a fair dovetail or mortise/tenon joint by hand - emphasis on 'fair' - but I'm not artistic at all. Still have a selection of Marples carving tools in my box but my fine woodworking days came and went. It's a great hobby or profession given the skills are there. I shared a shop for a while with a blacksmith who also carved. Had a neat piece in the shop that was him carving himself out of the log. The detail in your work reminds me of that.

You're joshing, right?;)

Let's see now... a wood plane may be made of steel, or may be made of wood. So... is the one you made called a wood wood plane?

It's a plane made of wood to plane wood lol. More common before steel body planes came about. Super common at flea markets but hard to set up to cut those wispy shavings everyone wants. I have about 30 different stanley pre war planes which I have tuned up nicely. Mostly I look at flea markets, I'm more of a user than a collector.

I've never carved wood before but consider myself great at ice carving , a hat I wore for many years.
