T37 trim

I know not much was standard on a 1971 T37 and was wondering if trim options like wheel well moldings and rocker moldings were optional . Most T37 models don't have this trim but have seen some old pontiac ads and a commercial where T37 had the trim .

Judge273 01-13-2018 08:49 AM

You're correct the T-37 is as basic as basic can be. No bright work trim standard and all options shown on phs.

The floor was for bench seat with no bucket seat option. That I know, and dome light standard.

Especially rocker trim, wheel opening trim, and drip rail trim.

My GT-37 had rocker trim factory studs so I added the brightwork.

Not sure if a T-37 without rocker trim that came factory had studs?

Still a lot to learn...

I’m not terribly familiar with the 1971 model year, by my ‘70 Tempest was ordered with the Decor Group, which includes wheel well, rocker, and door post trim. I would have guessed there was a Decor Group option for ‘71 as well. Anyone have a ‘71 order sheet we can look at?

Thanks Mike , I was confused because I always thought no rocker or wheel well trim but I have seen some old pontiac ads showing trim . I know Gt37 and lemans sport had the trim . I have PHS and shows as option on order sheet . So I assume it was an option for T37 correct ?

Mine came with the wheel opening molding but no rocker or roof edge. FWIW

Judge273 01-13-2018 10:21 AM

Boss, did your car have studs for rocker trim?

Mike K, rocker moldings, WOM's, and roof rail moldings were all optional on 70-71 233 series 2 doors, the addition of GT-37 option didn't add any of the aforementioned items. Bright reveal trim was optional on the T-37 Coupe, but seldom ordered.

Once the '71 Pontiac A-body was ordered as a 235 series LeMans, its standard content gained the alum rocker trim, & on 2 door LeMans Coupes, the bright reveal trim around the top of the Coupe door & around the 1/4 windows.

As one gets to the higher trim content LeMans Sport, the wheel opening moldings (WOM's) are standard content. There seems to be some lack of consistency in the factory installlation of the hood & fender edge bright moldings on '71 LeMans Sport & GTO models, but thats another topic.

On my '71 T-37 HO Coupe, for bright work, it was only ordered with the stainless roof rail moldings, the doors and B pillar are body color (red). Investigating what has transpired with my '72 LeMans Coupe, have found it originally had standard content bright reveal trim on the top of the doors & around the rear 1/4 glass, but had been removed by previous owner. Am probably going to leave it that way, as it renders a more bare bones performance look which fits better with the original build of the car.

Thanks for the info . Another thing that is unusual to me with the bare bones T37 mantra is this car has AC , power brakes and power steering . I have always been into the performance and racing part but enjoy and appreciate the correctness of factory cars .

I don't believe so Mike. My blue one had the roof moldings but it didn't show up on the PHS so who knows.

My GT-37 does not have any of the chrome moldings or the studs for rocker molding, but has an option -B94 Body Emblem. On the order form shown, it show the GT-37 option with GT decal as standard not emblems.

Judge273 01-14-2018 06:39 PM

I do think it's possible my car got free rocker moldings from factory.

Mike, if it's worth anything to you, my 71 GT-37 (T-37 with GT option) didn't come with wheel well or rocker moldings either but had the factory holes punched for the wheel well molding screws. Must of been an factory efficiency thing just in case they were ordered down the line.

One thing that always amazed me on the T-37 or GT-37. The diecast lettering on the car had to cost more than the GTO in 1971.

This car also had holes in front fenders for wheel well molding screws but not in rear .
