Removing the fender trim on a 62
How do you remove the fender spears top and side on a 62? Do you have to remove or loosen the fender it self?

Fender spears on the top side you can get to the nuts without removing the fender. The side trim, you must remove the fender. Now before you start. Douse the nuts with PB blaster or some other penetrating oil. Wait for a few days, and then try to loosen the nuts. The threaded studs get brittle, lubrication is your friend.

You can get to the side spears without removing the fender if you remove the lower bolt & pull out on the fender. Hard to get to but can be done. YES on PB Blaster!

Do they only have 1 pin holding each one on. Got my hand in there but they did not feel like jam nuts.

Yes, you can remove the fender spears,as Keith suggested by removing the lower fender bolt and pulling the fender out so you can get your hand in there, But keep in mind that the spears are pot metal and the mtg posts are probably long eroded away ,,, thus why they are probably glued in place?

You can rechrome and repair the trim. The trim is a V shape, use a dermal tool and remove the broken off stud and base. Carefully cut a hole on the inside where the stud was. Take an 8X32 screw and put the head of the screw into the hole. Yes, you can grind down or head of the screw. JB Weld the screw in place. You can use tape for a temporary brace to hold the screw in place. When the JB is dry, you can mount the trim using washers and nuts. Much more secure than gluing a trim part on.

This is a good idea if the rest of the spears are in good shape. Personally love JB Weld and a lot of my car is held together with "fixed" parts!
