convertible brake & fuel lines
 

Anybody have any pictures saved of how the brake & fuel lines were routed originally on the frame front to back? The assembly manual does not have good pictures & I want to get them as close to the original orientation as I can. Looks like maybe the brake line is on the bottom, then fuel, followed by the return line on top? My lines need a lot of tweaking.

Here's the brake line tweaked in place. I believe this is how it should be routed.
however I fir the fuel lines & thats a whole different story. They have some crazy bends in them, obviously not meant to follow the brake line much?

Try to ignore the green tape. Hoping to prevent scratching things.

What's puzzling is the fuel lines have sooooo many bends in them. Seems so overkill. Brake line seems very straight forward. (pun intended) I found a couple low resolution picts of a 69 that show those same bends, so must be there for a reason.

I give up for now. Tried both the return & the supply line neither fit for nothing.

Whomever came up with these bends for this car way over designed them. Wow, just send the pipe to the back, why does it have to make 14 angles to go 12 feet? Then you have the aftermarket companies pre bending them sorta the right way (at least you hope) & together it equals a big mess that fits nowhere.

One thing is for sure, I should have straightened this erector set out BEFORE i painted the frame.

Brake line is fine, fuel lines are a joke.

Here are some pics of my 68 cvt brake lines after lifting the body off the frame. Lots of undercoating and decades of road grime.

Here’s a few after cleanup and re-assembly. If I remember correctly, the colors I painted the brake line clips was based on the old paint I found preserved under the undercoating.

Thanks kk68, those picts will help a Ton. Now some of those extra bends make sense, however mine seems to be turned where the bends don't go the direction they should. I couldn't tell what should be there & what needs to be tweaked. Its kind of a mess. So the return line is only secured by the "S" clips until it gets to the back? Did you paint your clips?

If your talking about the return fuel line, yes secured by S clips along with brake lines in middle frame section. Fuel lines go through the frame upfront, and secured with 2 special clips in back section as shown in the pics.

Yes, I painted the original clips. Yellow and blue colors are based on remnants I found on them.

my clips were rusted & long discarded from when I started my project. I bought new clips many years ago, but they only came in zinc, or whatever coating they had. I see the colored blue, yellow, green, clips available. Not sure if that varied from plant to plant at all? My car is a Michigan build. Pretty sure we both started our cars in the early 2000's? I bought mine in 2001.

I've been taking so long on this car, some newer research has come to light, more info & parts available too. Funny how much can change in 15 years.

My car is Arlington built as well. Clips looked like zinc or cad plated but the rolling chassis was left exposed to the elements for several years before I recovered it in 2015 so it's possible the painted finish had worn away.

Can’t access a closer look at those clips now that the body is back on. Attached a clearer close up pic. I think they are just double line clips, one for side by side lines, and the other for stacked lines. Maybe similar to these (on right) included with #PAF305 from InlineTube.

I remember each clip was slightly different but nearly impossible to see when installed so what you show will probably be fine for both spots. I think the rear clip had the lines side by side where the other clip had them stacked on top of each other. I will try and find some more pics...Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

68's used the clip on the side of the brake booster too, correct? I need to order one of those as well.

Also found last night that my return line is clearly bent to fit & follow the top of the supply line. in kk68's picts, I can see his original was the opposite. appears to be bent smaller to fit inside & below the supply line. I can't get hung up on these details too long or I'll never get me car together. I guess at the end of the day, it just needs to look correct & fit nice. :)

Not sure about the clip by the booster.....my car is manual front disk brake version. I found some pics from the tear down. Maybe these will help. I don't remember a tab on either of the two rear clips.

When I took my car apart I had a sony mavica camera. The resolution of those pictures was quite horrible. something like 14 pictures on a 1.4mb disk. Pretty comical by todays standards. Makes me sad the car has been apart that long. lol
