1968 non RA scoop paint
 

what color are the inside grill area supposed to be for 68 non Ram Air "scoop" supposed to be? Body color? Black? Flat? Semigloss? Gloss?

Black, should be near flat in sheen as I recall. Someone else here will confirm.

I painted my 1969 Firebird 400 semi-gloss flat black and the look great.

Black fins (semi, satin,or flat idunno). How did GM mask them?

Would be cool to be fly on the wall back in the day to see how all those seemingly simple things were done. had to be something quick & easy I'm sure.

Absolutely, flat or near flat black.. You want them to disappear really so they appear to be just a hole.
Glossy, body colored scoop inserts scream ' bad repaint' to me.

Some beautiful cars there. Personally I prefer mine body color, even on my old white 70. I'm not shooting for concours, just a redneck that likes to drive the hell out of my car.

That's a car that's been in several auto publications over the years. One of my favorites and a great color. Yeah, it's Nightshade with a painted white top.

Are you talking about this entire part including the horizontal grooved area inside? White? To each his own I guess..:)

This is how I painted mine. I used SEM trim black. reduced it 50% so it would easily get in all the grooves without building up too much. Has a nice finish too.

It has a slight sheen, but still looks very black. As you get flatter, the blacks tend to get a bit gray looking so I chose to go almost flat. :)

Yes, it has dust all over it too I am just realizing. Like most of my parts that are just sitting & waiting........

I feel you on getting the stuff done and then it sits, but take comfort in the knowledge that NOBODY tops me on the drag out time....my 69 Judge is now moving into year 32 of a work in progress! (I need to downsize the flock to focus but I can't bring myself to sell anything)

Selling things is tough. When I was in my teens & 20's I was always buying & selling. didn't have the room or the extra money to keep things. Having two muscle cars was not a possibility. Then as I got older, had the space & few extra dollars I started keeping. It started with my 87 Iroc that I put up for sale in 1995. Then the nostalgia kicked in with age & the car hoarding was under way.... ;)
