Heater control valve 1979 403
 

Does any one sell the heater control valve that go on the intake manifold at the back of the engine? The heater hose connects to it on the 403 Olds motor? It also has a vacuum port on it for the heat, mine rotted.

Yours is possibly already swapped out. The originals did not have a vacuum port, no second gens did. But it is a common option to swap just to limit hot heater hoses in Summer cabins. I cannot recall the original heater hose fittings done, they have a flow limiter inside them. I collected a few good used just in case, then installed the vacuum version anyway.

Edit.....thought you meant the actual heater hose of coolant. You mean the vacuum line with checkvalve that runs to the heater controls inside? Which part are you seeking?

Edit 2...no, actually it sounds like I was right the first time but also includes the second version as you have something non standard, but let us know exactly.

I got one for my '67 Cutlass from Supercars Unlimited.

Found out the diaphragm had ruptured in the strangest way...I was driving down the freeway on a 115* day with the top down wearing shorts, and I started feeling boiling hot water droplets misting onto my legs. I knew it had to be coolant, but I didn't see any hitting the windshield. Turned out the vacuum to the heater control module was drawing it into the car from the ruptured heater control valve and the droplets were hitting my skin. Ouch!

The original type used on Firebirds was like this, on my 403. Other engines may have used same piece or just similar. No vacuum or tap, simply a nylon insert with hold inside to limit flow. Hard to even find clear pics of in my collection before a hose covers it.

Auto parts stores used to sell them. I sold a bunch when I worked in an independent parts tore from 1985-1998. I'd think they are still available. Of course we are now talking about an antique car...

A 79 did not originally come with a heater control valve. All it had was the heater hose connected to the hose fitting on the back of the engine. Hot water continuously circulates through the heater core on these cars. Heat control is controlled by the position of the deflector door inside the heater box inside the car. Sometimes the heater door leaks heat inside the cabin.
