093 head value
 

I have a set of 093 heads and am trying to find out the value on them, ebay prices are all over the place. I also have a set of earlier 389 heads for a 62. Would anyone know what they are worth?

i paid 300 for a set of 093s..untouched,,needing everything..thought i did ok..

With your living in Kingston NH, unless you are already going to a large car event (Hershey? Norwalk? Carlisle? etc) where you can arrange to meet a buyer and deliver the heads, shipping costs will seriously reduce the values. On your work bench, the 093's are worth about $200 (if you are lucky). The earlier 389 heads for a 62 are boat anchors (assuming there is nothing special about them.

A few years ago I sold a set of early 62 heads for $30 and the shipping costs (UPS-700 miles) far exceeded that. I suggest you donate the 62's as a pay-it-forward item on this site and advertise the 093's for $200+shipping.

A couple years ago I bought a set of early 66 093's for $150.00 at Norwalk that had valves and springs included. (Surface rust, needed to be redone, and no rocker studs)

2 to 3 hundred seems ok to me for the 093's but that sucks for the earlier heads. Doug are you saying that if you have an older one that needs rebuilding to get rid of it and put a 400 in it?

Unless you have a car engine that uses (can use) a set of 1962 heads, there is not much value for them. As it turns out, about 10 years ago I had a rough 62 Catalina hardtop that had a poor running 2bbl 389. I pulled it and the auto tranny and put in an early 70's 455 with turbo 400 and 1969 longbranch manifolds. I pulled the parts off the 389, sold the heads for $30 and put some other parts under the bench, scrapped the block and crank. Sold the Catalina a couple years ago.

Changeover from a 1962 389 to a bigger later model V-8 is fairly easy to do, although the tranny hump needs to be slightly enlarged.

I assumed from your initial posting that the 1962 heads were a leftover from your earlier Pontiac activity of several years ago.

All of us tend to "accumulate" stuff without realizing it. A couple years ago I got rid of my 62 Catalina project car because I knew I would never finish it. It was third on the list of my Pontiacs at that time. (see pics)

Last year I sold off my "extra" Muncie 4spd conversion stuff (tranny, clutch, flywheel, etc) and just recently sold off a couple of 455 motors. Just this week I sold off a small part (turn signal switch for 63 Tempest) to a guy on west coast. I had that part on the shelf for at least 35 years.

I don't advertise parts for sale. Typically, somebody hears about what I have and they contact me or I see an ad on this site from people wanting a certain item. Last year I sold a set of axles for a 57 Pontiac to a guy that posted an ad looking for some.

I've got some other stuff I need to get rid of so I guess I'll probably start listing it and I'll be asking opinions on "What's it worth?" too.

About $100 a pair at swaps around here. Not too much demand for pre-67 heads except for period resto builds.

As an aside. Even less demand for 092 heads even though they are essentially the same. 093 get all the glory since they came on GTOs.
