69 GTO Convertible Power Antenna

69 GTO Convertible power Antenna - what is the right one? How do you tell by the numbers?
I have one with the numbers 11-12 8AAXA and on the mask mount 9793319. I think this is for a 69,but is it for a convertible? I believe I found this in the trunk of a 69 car I parted out,but I don't remember this car having a power antenna, but it has been a really long time ago,So I guess I just got lucky.

Yes mine came with a power antenna on the right rear quarter. And have the build sheet. When I bought the car it was missing, but the mount bracket is still there.

What is the build sheet code & box number for Power Antenna in 68, & 69?

The sheet I have is car invoice (not sure if that's a build sheet, probably not) says "Power Ant suggested retail-$31.60 order 381". That's all I have.

My 68 GTO has the Power Antenna, stock switch and coax, but I hobo' a modern power unit with stainless telescope& chrome ferrules (with 2 block relays): looks and motors great. No AM though.

Half-Inch Stud- what you did is probably the best way to do it. The original ones are not that good and what I was told at a swap meet is one for a 68-69 convertible (original one very rare ) could cost $1000. Forget that! that's crazy. The one I have is for a hardtop, but after looking into it I think I can change the top piece that mounts to the inside quarter and install the correct bezel.

My GTO ragtop has its original convertible rear power antenna, when I added a power antenna to my 69 LeMans ragtop I found a 69 hardtop unit. I ordered the upper bezel, gasket and nut repro and installed the unit.

The only parts that are different that I could see is the upper adapter (below the quarter panel hole, the bezel (the chrome tapered bezel between the body and the chromed nut).

Once installed you'd never notice any difference between the two and they are both water tight.

The only difference in the installation is that when mounting the unit in a ragtop the whole assembly is cocked 90 degrees different (I believe clockwise viewed from above) from a hardtop. I had to unscrew the adapter that bolts with three screws to the top of the antenna body tube. I left it unscrewed, installed the antenna, turned the adapter till it seated nice marked the a hole then re-drilled the tube and reinstalled the screws.

I wouldn't pay more and/or wait forever to find a convertible unit. The hardtop unit works and looks perfect.

Seen them back in the day. So I think so too.

Seems the modern 90's rear Power Antenna is decent, and a common design from (I forget really) Volvo, VW, Mercedes. U Pull It pick the best looking Mast and you probably got the common motor mechanism deal.

I have a hardtop power antenna on my 69 convertible and it fits perfectly
and looks great. No need to source any convertible antenna parts.

These are the only difference between the hard top an convertible power antennas. The top flange and bottom attachment flange. The convertible stuff is had to find but as mentioned, the hard top works well enough. The convertible upper flange has the part # on the inside, hard top on the outside bottom.

Love the look of an original power antenna on a ragtop...

Great photos, really shows clearly the differences. I have examples of both but never bothered to compare them.
