FITech Mean Street ??
 

Anyone running an FITech Mean Street?? What dist are you running ???

Not mean street, but the 1200 PA system. Same exact wiring, etc. I run an MSD Pro Billet, but I still have mechanical advance. I tried the timing control and could never get the rotor to phase correctly.

Mean Street doesn't have timing control capability, so you should run whatever distributor you like best with that system. The only thing you'll want to watch out for is a noisy tach signal. That kind of takes the mallory unilite stuff out of the equation, since it's noisy as all hell.

On one car I run a locked out Jegs 2 wire to do timing control with my Go EFI 600.

On my other car I run Easy Street 600, and a factory HEI converted for use with an MSD 6AL (no module). My tach signal to trigger the EFI comes off the MSD box, so the stock distributor magnetic pickup triggers the box. I don't know if the MSD processes or alters the original trigger signal to reshape or make it stronger. If I had an o-scope, maybe I would check it out. But it seems to work nicely.

Thanks for the tip on the noisy Unilite. I hadn't heard that. I bought his thing 100 years ago when I first started my project. It was one of the latest things ...LOL Guess I can put it up on ebay and get me an MSD billet. I wish the Mean Street did timing control. I was afraid to get the 600. My motor is pretty close to that limit. so I went with the 800. Got a good deal on it.

Do you have to worry about this if you are running a box that has the tach output ?? ANd maybe put some shielding on the tach wire ???

I didn't have to myself. I run my tach wire off a chinese HEI and haven't had issues. No shielding either. I also run my wife's Go Street tach signal off the Accel HEI in her Chevelle. No issues there either.

HEI's are also kind of notorious for having a dirty signal, but in my case I haven't run into any issues. I just try and route the blue tach wire as far away from the distributor and spark plugs as possible.

I think generally, if you're running shielded plug wires and resistor plugs, you're probably okay. Anecdotally, the people I see with rpm noise issues run cheap wires and non-resister plugs.
