Looking for Voodoo 703 & 455 idle video?

I have searched you tube and the internet for a Voodoo 703 268\276 cam and 455 idling video, no luck.

If you have this combo can you post a video here? I want to hear the idle before buying the cam.

Thanks,
bt :) :D

There is so darn much that goes into the idle quality of a motor that I must say with all due respect I think your wasting your time on this search!

I have seen a BBC of 468 cid with 9.2 comp and running a Cam bigger then what you are looking at idle Wine glass smooth at 550 rpm!

For this motor such was manly responsible due to running a Holley Carb with replaceable idle and air bleeds and the time spent in very fine tuning it, period, and these Carbs are not cheap!

Ruff low speed running before any give cid motor comes on the Cam is also due 60% of the time to reversion from the Exh side getting back into the chamber, as any type of Exh system back pressure during the Cam overlap phase at low rpm ( low exh velocity times ) will produce this unwanted idle effect!

If your the type who will only run Exh Manifolds with high flow heads then this is something you will need to live with!

+2
We did a 455 Super Duty a few years back with a larger 230/236 @ .050” roller cam that idled dead smooth clear down to 600 RPM’s even with only 8.8 to 1 compression.

Despite the smooth idle quality it made excellent power on the Dino for being so mild at a glance......Cliff

I have a 702 in a 400. It has a small lope at idle and runs better than i expected. No video to share and can't take one now because its apart on the bench.
76 t/a, 4spd, d-ports, q-jet with 3.23 gear and will fry the tires all the way through 2nd by just rolling on it. Takes 3rd gear to get it hooked and goin. Total blast to drive.

Like I said no video but hopefully this will give you an insight to how it should run.

:focus: Well, no idle video exists good enough. If I had known that I wouldn't have ask for one. I thought the topic was clear and straight forward?? It appears this is not the forum to use when searching for a idle video. If I could hear the idle I could decide which path I want to pursue and no questions left un-answered & no mistaken cam purchases. bt :D :D

I just put that same cam in my 400 and have video.

I also have that cam in a 400. Let me know if you want video link. It sounds like that one ^^ for the most part.

Here are a couple of videos of a Voodoo 703 in a Pontiac 428. 62 heads, 9.5 CR, Ram Air exhaust manifolds.

Kinda of a loaded request. So many variables to what the idle will roll like,
I’d surmise CR, firstly..
cam and ignition timing, exhaust type, lifter bleed rate, idle RPM. And carb tune would all be Variables

Hope you find/ get what your looking for!
Beware buyer!

The 703 is an advertised 110 LSA over the counter purchase,so likely an idle with some lope if that's what you want. But the general feeling is that a 112 to 114 LSA is better for power and more vacuum in a 455 which is what I am ordering My 703 with.My build will be a 455,9.5 CR with SD prep'd 6X-4 heads and Rare HO exhaust manifolds with 2.5 inch outlet and exhaust. We will see if it feels stronger as I have always used 110 LSA cams in the past.

Less overlap will indeed improve vacuum but in MOST cases less power.
Correct overlap and valve events are key,

Did all the cams have the same intake and exhaust duration and net valve lifts, or fairly close?

If running exhaust manifolds RA/HO or otherwise and a full exhaust system you will want to have a wider LSA to make max power. Dave at SD performance has done some testing in this area and you can read about it on his website. One thing about the Voodoo cams is they will have good dynamic compression and should work well with a low compression motor. One thing I am curious about is if I have a Voodoo cam and I special order it with a 114 LSA how will this change affect the dynamic compression ratio?

Yes and I've commented on it several times, obvious mismatched combo.
REVERSION MONSTER.
It does not take 263/271 dur. @ .050 to make 502 HP with headers.
A single pattern UD solid flat 246 @ .050 will get it done.
Not an analysis on LSA.

467ci 9.5 to 1 OEM D-port headed engine in which we were running an Ultradyne Solid Flat Tappet cam with 263/271 dur. @ .050 on a 112 lobe sep, the engine made 502hp with 1 3/4" Hooker SC headers when we switched over to A-body Ram Air manifolds, peak hp dropped to 457hp and at 6000rpm we saw close to a 75hp drop, obviously this combo worked much better with headers, the reason being that this particular camshaft has a lot of overlap and needs the long primary tubes of a tubular header.

I'm not a camshaft expert and do not profess to be. That said, as I understand things what makes the Voodoo line unique is very quick ramp profiles. This is evidenced by the advertised and 0.050 duration numbers being seemingly closer for the gross amount of duration. I'm not positive what this means but I think it results in less overlap. So while this cam has 110 LSA, it doesn't necessarily have the same manners of other cams of this LSA and duration.

He’s not asking to be schooled on cam choice, he wants idle videos.

Go with the 704, idled really nice in my 70

Probably over the top but I have sound bite of my 705 in a 30 over 455 at the bottom of my sig.

What is your concern with the idle? What do you want for an idle? My customer wanted a smooth idle, and good vacuum. I put the 703 in his 455 and he loves it. Smooth and makes good vacuum. He told me he's getting too old for choppy idle, and just want smooth but fast. He's really happy with what he got. The 703 in a 455 has a smooth idle.
