49 2 door back window ?
 

Are the back side windows removable? There is a little spring loaded lever toward the front of the side glass. Do these let the windows come out? The windows are loose but I can't figure it out.

Perhaps they slide backward to open (as some late thirties GM cars did)?

Sounds like you're working with a coupe.....2 doors had roll down glass.

[emoji16] A you can tell, I'm not familiar with these cars. I started to call it a business coupe but didn't think that was right either.

Anyway, it doesn't have roll down windows. There are little levers towards the front of each window. Any help on how they work. I can't seem to figure it out.

There were a couple different body styles for two door cars, take a look at the enclosed picture from the factory brochure and let us know which one it is.

Probably the same as Chevy. 2dr sedans would have roll down windows so they would have a window crank. The glass may only roll down about half way. Coupes (business coupe or whatever) would have a window only about 12-14 inches long a the bottom side. May not have the window crank but a little handle on the side of the glass near the front and should pull back to open. Again probably not back all the way but maybe half open. They are usually stuck by this time and require a hard pull. May even have some kind of latching mechanism where you need to push the handle in or pull it out or push down while pulling back.. Been a long time and my memory fades.

Sounds similar to the '41 Pontiac 2-Door Coupe that I had. The glass side back and down, gave an opening of 3-4 inches. It was hard to operate but that could be because the car was 75 years old.

That sounds like what I have guys. I was trying to move it down. I didn't think of back. I'll try that next time. It's a friend's car & we were trying to figure it out the other day.

So we have three types of two door sedans.

One, in the streamliner fastback which consist of a Standard Chieftain and a Deluxe Chieftain. Both with roll down windows.

Next we have the 2 door notch back sedan in Standard Chieftain and Deluxe Chieftain, both have roll down windows.

Last is the short canopy notchback Business Coupe, and the Deluxe Club Coupe or more correctly the Coupe Sedan which have sliding rear windows that only open a couple of inches back.


All rear window glass can be removed ( all glass period can be removed )

The windows seem to tilt out at the top. That lever mode back & forth but doesn’t seem like do anything. There is no mechanism under the glass inside the door.
The glass just tilting in doesn’t seem right. Seems like they would break if you drove it like that. I can’t get them to push back in where they should go.

Any more thoughts?

It would appear this is what you have. Since the glass is tilting in, I think it may be off the tracks that allow it to slide back.

Thanks. I’ll check some more. They seem to be attached to metal at the bottom. I can’t get them pushed back into position. Do you have any idea how that little lever works? It moved front to back & you can pull it up but it doesn’t seem to do anything.
