63 Lemans Fender Bolts

I've looked at a lot of photo's but am still left wondering about the fender attachment bolts on the 63. It appears that the front cowl/firewall and inner fenderwells were usually painted body color and the painted fenders were bolted on after the body and chassis were joined. Were the attachment bolts cadmium plated, black oxide, or something else ? Anyone know for sure ?

I think you're right, bolts were painted with the car in most locations. I've cleaned all my bolts and painted them with satin black. If you clean up any bolt you must paint it, it will rust.

This is correct.

This I can't answer with authority. Definitely not body color, most of the bolts used were not silver, so I would guess black oxide.

I would propose painting them black.

Front fender bolts.

One car I parted out had those bolts plated with black zinc. They were purpose made bolts with an integral washer. Those looked different to me than other cars I had seen because the washer was fused (made as part of the hex head).

I saved those bolts but I can't recall right now where I put them.

I remember specifically the car (see the last 2 photos below) those bolts came from was a west coast built car. Other cars I have owned (Michigan built cars) had those coarse sheet metal hex head bolts with a separate washer. As I recall those bolts were either silver cadmium or grey phosphate plated. That style of bolt, with separate washer, one each per; were also used in and around the core support.
