Many years ago, right about the time the first 64 GTOs were being built for sale, Detroit
had a Auto Show called Autorama. It was a Street Rod type show.

The car that won that show in the 1965 time frame (show was held very early in the year)
featured a Car called "THE GHOST" by Carl Casper.

This car was unique because it was built with a PONTIAC ENGINE (421 engine with an overbore to around a 426 engine).

It had a very special induction set-up: TWIN 4-71 ROOTS SUPERCHARGERS ON A CUSTOM INTAKE MANIFOLD. (see pictures attached). The Superchargers were functional.

Now some years later a friend of mine, Jerry Magnuson did a twin Eaton Supercharger set-up on a custom intake and it was for sale. The superchargers were a bit smaller but it was a cool set-up you could actually buy vs build your own.

Jerry Magnuson, never claimed to have built the first dual supercharger set-up (even though many thought he did).

The car was featured in Car Craft Magazine (on the cover) in the January 1965 issue.
The typical lead time on magazine articles was 3 months in those days so they shot the pictures in the october 1964 time frame.

A single cogged belt drove both 4-71 superchargers.
The rear axle was from a Pontiac Tempest (with its independent swing axle system).
The engine was basically a stock 421 engine modified with a Isky 505 Magnum camshaft for the cool sound crowd.
The engine used a Dual Scoop (Carb Throttle Bodys, I assume) with hidden Hilborn Injection to the intake.
The car was built with the mandatory Exhaust Headers required for that time period.

(THE LAST 3 PICS ARE MAGNUSON SUPERCHARGER PICS. FIRST TWO ARE ROOTS 4-71 PICS.)

Never knew Carl Casper, but knew Jerry M for over 25 years.

Enjoy

Now because this is the PONTIAC Boost Forum, and I previously mentioned Jerry Magnuson's Dual Supercharger set-up, AND PONTIAC made a J2000 vehicle, we will look at some pics of a similar BOOST set-up done to the max, years later by Rick Dobbertin..

First we have a Holley DOMINATOR 1050 cfm carb which then fed a pair of Roto-Master turbochargers, which fed twin MagnaCharger Roots blowers, (with additional HP from a one-off, 20-port NOS nitrous system) and finally a water/alcohol injection system.
