2020 GT 500
 

Just saw the release of the new Ford GT 500, it got me thinking what if Pontiac was still around what they would have come up with if they were still around?

With the Dodge Demon and now the Redeye. Camaro ZL1, SS camaros it seems the HP wars are alive and well.

10 second factory street cars right off the showroom floor!

Just amazing

If Pontiac was still around the cars would be Chevy (corporate) power.....so who cares! Now if they had real Pontiac engines with RA5 heads............:)

It seems GM has been determined to eliminate Pontiac for a long time. The Mustang, Camaro, Challenger and Demon all awesome come backs. They kill the GTO every chance they get. The GTO was put to rest in 1972 in my opinion.

I just saw the new....(I think it was Car Craft) magazine. Mopar has just released a new crate engine called the "Helliphant". 1000 hp and like 950 # torque. Factory warranty to boot. All peripherals go with it and one can purchase a kit to install into early Mopar muscle cars! Who woulda ever thought we'd see 1000hp from the factory?

I think the car looks horrendous.

The final nail in the coffin for me not liking it, is it being only-automatic.

The spoiler and many of the other body add-on's look like they came straight out of a kids car racing game... as a matter of fact, I think I saw an Accord this morning with that very same spoiler.

Yep, the wing sent it over the top! Motor heads don’t design cars anymore. Snowflake engineers that have no vision of timeless styling. Me Shelby would be sick.

These new "muscle cars" are designed for the 38-48 year old demographic. I would be interested in hearing what folks on here in that general age group think of the car. I'm 60, so GM thinks I should be in a Buick Lucerne or a Cadillac 4 dr, I guess. Wouldn't be caught dead in either for the record. I think the Camaro was the first to sport the sewer grate/storm drain on the hood. This new Mustang just takes it a few steps further. The general, bolt-on, tack-on fast and furious look seems to be the direction Chevy, Ford and Dodge are going. Don't personally care for the styling, but can't argue with the performance, that's for sure.

People had the same comments when Ford released the New 2016 Ford GT ECOBOOST Twin Turbo Body Style vs the retro 2006 Ford GT-40 style body.

The Twin Turbo V-6 Engine made far more HP vs the old Eaton Supercharged 5.4L engine did. The AERO is also much much better.

The Shelby 500 front end is again a Modern style.

The New Shelby 500 Auto Transmission can shift faster than most people can work a typical 6 speed Manual Transmission.

Last time I checked, this was a pony car... or maybe Ford has forgotten this.

Maybe I'm just an old fashioned stick in the mud.

I thought the performance package 2 Mustang GT was cool... it has some similar ground effects without looking overly tacky.

I have never been a Mustang fan but I like the looks of the car other than the over done rear spoiler and black wheels..... God I hate black wheels! Let's get over that fad already please?!!

I though black wheels looked cool for a brief period of time about eight years ago... I'm so over that now.

Some of these collector cars will be put away and hardly ever driven on the street except to the Breakfast Car Show in California. This is a MONEY Car.

That being said, some do drive the cars. A bunch of the old 2006 Ford GT drivers have never been past 120 in their cars but they drive all over the country to the shows. Most just haul them in trailers to the shows.

A friend has a original 1967 Shelby 500 Mustang (427 Dual Quad Car).
He will buy one and add it to his other 1967 venicle as a comparison vehicle.

Ford will sell every one they build.

As I posted in other threads, many can't drive a 600 hp car PROPERLY much less a 750+ hp car.

Any idea what the new 500 will cost?

Ford is still saying 700+ HP
It will be interesting to see what it ends up making then what it will make with a tune.

If people like to shift the gears, the vehicle is supposed to be available with a 6 speed manual trans.
Jack, would not surprise me if the car was priced at 90K.
The modern Shelby 350 was in the 60K range.

I get it all, except for people buying a new car as an "investment" - if you buy it, you had better drive it, because odds are you will never get what you paid for it... so I say drive it, and have fun.
Then again if someone is only fixated on the "700+hp", Dodge has been offering that in a myriad of vehicles for a couple years now.

Being in that age group roughly and having been in the modern mustang/corvette game somewhat in the past, I can tell you that the aesthetic here is pretty on point with what us in that category are looking for.

The mindset is very much a "keeping up with the jones" mindset. So there's a function here where looks don't matter as much as long as they help performance. The pieces are functional which aid in bragging rights when you're talking about things like Nurburgring lap times etc.

There's also the idea that, I'm spending a good amount of money on a car that realistically I can't use as basic transportation, so I want it to be as brash and "look at me" as possible.

I've long since left that stable as I could no longer justify the cost and the progression rate of these things is just out of control, but make no mistake, when these start popping up at dealers, they'll probably be a big hit.

I stand corrected at this point in time, lol.

I can only go by Carl Widmann's comment (Chief Engineer for SVO:

(Widmann) "didn’t rule out the possibility of a manual in the future if there’s sufficient demand, but it’s not part of the plan currently." Key Word "Sufficient Demand" means they have done the homework but do not currently offer it in the car.

The 6 speed dual clutch stuff is a great trans though for the majority of drivers.

I like the GT 500, the Hellcats/Redeyes are nice but they look bloated. There are just to damn big and heavy.
