Dodged a Bullet
 

My Firebird has been hard to start this season. Occasionally it will backfire through the tail pipes. Everybody in the house and neighbors love it (kidding). Figure it might be timing so after checked it. Maybe a bit "off" (10 deg) and set it to 12. I happen to notice the harmonic balancer was wobbling a bit. Made sure it was tight, it was, so I ordered another one from Summit Saturday. Installed it this afternoon. No more wobbling. :D

Glad I noticed it as about 20 years ago I had one crack and fell off. :eek:

Still not starting up while cold, but figure once it gets warmer, that will "cure" it.

Most stock balancers have some wobble to them if you look close. I have 4 stock balancers on the shelf one has only been used on my test stand all have at least a small wobble. Put a sfi balancer on dead true no wobble. All on the same engine.

You might be running a little lean or your float needs adjusting.
