1959 transmission swap

I have. 4 speed jetaway behind my 389 catalina (1959) is there another pontiac 3 speed trans that will bolt straight up to the 59 engine?

Not without an adapter. The Jetaway is a 4 speed.

He has a 4 speed Super HydraMatic ( Pontiac term). Jetaway is a Oldsmobile term. 315 HydraMatic a Cadillac term and they are all the same.

The guys that designed it and built it call it a Controlled Coupling HydraMatic or sometimes referred to Dual Coupling HydraMatic .

You forgot Strato Flight and probably a few more names.
Local trans shops and parts suppliers have been calling it a Jetaway across the board for years. most of the overhaul kits even say Jetaway on them.

Pontiac also used 315

The Super Hydramatic name was not even used in 1959.

Strato flight appears when the transmission was introduced only on the 1956 StarChief only model, and the slant pan dual range HydraMatic is still used on the 870 and 860 series for 56..
Super Hydramatic appears in all the 1959 brochures, in fact Super HydraMatic is introduced on the 1958 Pontiac as the "New Advanced Super HydraMatic in the 1958 Pontiac brochures.
