Cam advice 428 firebird
Hi,
I am in order to buy a new camshaft and need some advice. Today i have a cc roller and cc roller lifters but i got a faulty lifter and that ruin the camshaft and one lifter. I have another roller laying around but i don´t really know if that going too fit my engine and car so well. Need advice This i have in garage (Hyd roller) INT EXH adv dur 289 306 dur 050 236 245 valve lift .570 .574 Lobe sep 112.0 The shaft i pulled out from engine was this below (Hyd roller) INT EXH adv dur 281 287 dur 050 230 236 valve lift .510 .524 Lobe sep 112.0 I maybe thinking that another solution is to swap back to a flat hyd, the are less expensive, if i do i am needed some advice what to put in for best performance on street . Engine 428 0,60over, std stroke Kauffman 310 D-port 74cc 1.5 rockers 0 deck, piston -10cc th400, 3000 stall 3.73 800cfm QJ ( EFI is coming on this engine i future) Power steering 17" wheels hydraboost brake if i dont miss mind i think the kre heads was set up to handle .600 lift, but i am not sure, Best regards to all PY members |
With a 3.73 gear and a 3k stall it looks to me like you would have been liked the 288/308 in the first place. Is the 308 a misprint? 61 intensity seems unusually soft on the exhaust. That would make the idle a bit choppier.

The 289 306 cam is going to move the peak HP RPM and shift RPM higher. What connecting rods do you have in the engine?

My first concern would be to pull the oil pan off and confirm that all the metal grit from the lifter and Cam failure gets taken out of the motor and pull the oil pump apart to check for scaring and crap in the check ball passage.

Hmm Bad News,
I have take the camshaft out of the box now and the shaft in there is not what it says on the box. Is there any chance to identify it? I can not remember if i have any camcard for it. It is a compcam Håkan |
Someone here will have access to those lobe numbers.

Lobe data. The "B" does mean that the numbers I show below are off a little
lobe number - Adv Duration @ 0.006" - Duration @ 0.050" - lobe lift - lift with 1.5:1 ratio rocker arm 3120 - 304 - 244 - 161 - .383" - .575" 3122 - 290 - 236 - 160 - .380" - .570" Stan |

It will work great and the added lift will take advantage of your good flowing heads. I'd suggest finding out what lift your current heads can handle to play it safe..You should be fine. But it's good to check.

These would be your cam card numbers....
Grind number P8 3122B / 3120B HR114.0 Rated 289 / 306 at .006" tappet lift 236 / 245 at .050" 114 LSA / 110 ICL Lobe lift .3800" intake and 3830" exhaust . |
When it comes to pushrods Instead of the typical common 0.080-.083 wall upgrade to something around .0116-.0118".
Do not be overly concerned about pushrod weight. The pushrod is on the slow moving side of the valve train. The additional weight of a heavy wall pushrod usually provides a much needed increase in valve train stability."
