whats the deal on different color bases ?

all 3 look like original paint too

fairly sure they are all 68 69 70

did each year have their own color ?

For at least the 68's, black colored base and a square hole are generally associated with the jacks installed on Fremont cars. But you may be on to something regarding different years since all the bases you show have a square opening. Don't have a good answer for that unfortunately.

Scott please check your PMs. Been wanting to buy one of your jacks.

Sold an original jack asm a few years back out of a '69 Camaro, its original jack base was gray. the original jack base from my mid '71 Fremont build is blue, nearly a Ford blue.

My cars have the base color the same as the bumper attachment piece in your 1st picture (second from left).

Sorry, I was counting jacks that had bases. It's actually the third jack from the left.



Take a look at the trunk from one of the original 1968 GTO of my good friends. Notice all original jack parts and their colors.

My 69 lemans has a black bumper jack base, handle and ratchet mechanism. I repainted it all the original black. Arlington build may 69.

Other than the bumper adapter this does not look like any 68 jack setups I have seen. I do get tired of seeing these pitted up spray bombed jacks on ebay,
Correct or not. Some are priced reasonable, this one is priced to the moon.

I've talked to this vendor in the past and generally his prices are very reasonable. This must be some extraordinary jack but not the highest price I've seen for a 68 GTO. But it does look like the majority of the late 60s Pontiac jacks I've seen on Ebay. Those from the Fremont factory are from a different manufacturer and are different.
I finally found one for my Fremont built 68 from Scott. Needs some work but not too bad. Very good price.

Interesting. The one I restored for my 68 looks exactly like the one on eBay, I know it wasn't from a GTO because of the lug wrench being too big, & was removed from a car & put in storage many years ago by the previous owner. it was in such incredible shape I decided to use it. I am OK with it, I just need to find a bumper adapter at some point.

Took a second look at the wrench and you're right. It does seem a little long.

Scott and I have noticed some minor differences in the Fremont jacks besides the color. At first glance the 68 and 69 jacking mechanisms look identical but are different at the base of the mechanism.
I know my original is hiding somewhere in my uncle's barn. He'll probably find it when he has to downsize and move.

Not to say that isn't a mixed and match setup. could be a correct jack & a random lug wrench?

After 5 years of being on the lookout, I finally found a 68 rear bumper adaptor. :)

Did we talk about the colors of all these parts & did they vary at all in 1968? back, blue, different shades of blue?

My jacking mechanism & base are painted blue & this adaptor I bought has never been repainted that I can tell.
I peeled some of the warning sticker off to expose the original color & then sprayed the same blue I used on the jack base to compare.
As you can see its not exactly the same. Close, but a bit brighter that can be seen with my camera better than my naked eye.

Should the base & adapter be the same color blue? or something else? In googling images I see a lot of different combinations.

One thing I've noticed, is that the adapter is the same dark blue color (Ford Blue) for all assembly plants. Some have been repainted a lighter shade of blue, but those with the original decal have always been Ford Blue from my observations.

Verdoro 68 has an adaptor decal that looks much better than the stickers sold by the vendors.

The blue I sprayed as a test on my picture above is Old ford blue engine paint. in the shop it looks really close,
in the sunlight, (as seen above) it looks a bit brighter. but very close.

Do you think the base was the same color, or were they a slightly different shade of blue?

I will need a new decal for sure. Going to sand blast, epoxy, & repaint it.
Next time I am repainting something, this will get done at the same time.

I think the base is dependent on which vendor the assembly plant used. Not an expert with the other plants. I just know the west coast plants used a different jack assembly altogether and as Scott mentioned early in this thread, base colors appear to have changed from year to year.
