hi guys, im ready to buy my pistons for my 455 and I cant find them any more on summit. and I looked on sealed powers web site and there not on that site also. do you guys know if they have been discontinued? thanks, BLUE TA

Much better options out there (more $$$), but if your on a tight budget better grab those ^ up!

They are probably disappearing because there are so many better options out there and not that much more money.

Modern pistons will be lighter, stronger, tighter fit, better ring packs and full-floating option.

I wouldn't install a set of those heavy old TRW/Speed Pro slugs if you gave them to me!.......Cliff

There stronger then stock and a tad lighter and run cooler than the cast ones, a important thing with today's fuels!
If your not looking to make over 600 hp there fine, it's just that the friction is high with those two top 5/64s rings!

Icon and SRP produce good pistons as does DSS. If you're building a street only application, you might want to consider a 4032 alloy piston verses a 2618 alloy piston. 4032 alloy pistons allow for a much closer tolerance and a quieter engine than 2618. If you're planning to add nitrous or a turbo/supercharger down the road go with the 2618 alloy piston.

2359's served us well when nothing else was available. I still remember those days when all we could get (affordable) were the 2359's and you had to get a 2nd Mortgage on the house for Oliver rods to hang them on. Some folks lucked out and found 455 Super Duty rods, others pissed with early "soft" forged rods (rubber rods) with feeble attempts to effectively heat treat them.

Keith Black entered the market at one point with HT pistons but they required too much top ring gap for my liking. Even with a lot of gap up top I've seen enough of them with the tops yanked off to avoid them.

Today the worst forged rod is better than any Pontiac cast rod, even the 5140 pressed pin versions. Nothing at all wrong with pressed pins either, just make sure the rods you bought have the pins fitting in them TIGHT and you will be fine.

I use the modern allows and fit our forged pistons tight, but use a torque plate for final fitting.

Before I got out of the engine building business the last half dozen or so that we did used Icon pistons hanging on Eagle H beam rods. I prefer the Crower rods but they became difficult to obtain and pretty expensive. For most of these builds the "H" beams are fine, even the "no-name" variety like Butler and KRE used to sell...........Cliff

Here's a counterpoint: I have a set of TRWs from the 400 SBC that are Superlight, and fit the Stock 455 +030, except the 927 pin. Bush the rod and go? Surely they are affordable NEW.

I noticed the pistons disappears from summits site several weeks ago. I was hoping they went out of stock because of the current logistics of overseas mfg, they are made in India.

Those forged speedpro pistons are about the only option for a forged piston that keeps close to factory balancing. It would stink to not have that option. I think I have seen all the generation of the TRW-to speedpro 455 pistons.

I never really thought of the speedpro 455 pistons as that heavy, for a factory piston they are really pretty light. They have gotten cheaper and cheaper looking though. The last new set I looked at we not pretty.

DSS makes a nice 455 piston also. Very comparable to the SRP. I have some DSS 428 pistons I machined to make a stepped head flat to for a 455. Between the lighter H beam eagle rods 768 grams and the DSS pistons 430 g w190 g pin the crank bob weight was a lot lighter.

If you end up using interference fit pin to rod, don’t put C clips or spiral locks in!
