Norwalk no opening date

Watching the news this morning a story on NRP came on now no opening date is scheduled also no date for Ceder Point.

Ohio seems to be slightly unique in the way the virus cases have progressed. The feeling is the citizens have done such a good job being isolated that the curve of new cases and the fall off have been exaggerated greatly. The number of new cases has ben flat for over a week but no real fall off. A real plateau. Things are supposed to open up slowly as soon as there is a drop off in new cases. Norwalk will have their ducks in a row, to meet all the requirements to open in early stages of the re-open IMO. Cedar Point may be a little more complicated. With all the lines typical of amusement parks and the tightly packed rides, not sure how you handle that. Ohio has 2 premier amusement parks, Cedar Point and Kings Island, not to mention 88 county fairs and a State Fair, all in jeopardy.

On that same news cast they did a story on a dirt track that opened for racing I don’t remember location but I don’t think it was Ohio. They let drivers and crew in only no spectators at all, all have to wear mask and practice distancing. That makes me think there might be hope for bracket racing weekend programs being there aren’t many spectators anyway. The big races are a different story.

It would be 100 times easier to control dragracers for safe distancing vs amusement park goers.

That’s for sure I remember my days going to CP on top of each other everywhere. The news also said if CP does not open it will cost Sandusky, Ohio 10 million dollars

Bandamier is open for testing on Friday and Saturday.
Limit to first 100 cars.
No spectators.
A driver and 2 crew for each car

Maybe if CP doesn't open by August the motel rooms will be cheaper!

Iowa tracks are open this coming weekend! It'll be good to get some wheel time

We had a huge race at a local outlaw 1/8th mike track last Sunday. More than 1k folks and over 200 cars. Never saw a mask or glove I. The entire place. We were free!

The Ohio Governor just extended the stay at home order for another month starting today May 1st. It will be interesting to see if Norwalk opens anyway this month. They probably can't hold on too much longer. Another month for a business generating 135 million in a 8 month open season is allot of money. I am guessing the 450+ seasonal employees would like a paycheck.

So- has Bader retracted his mid-April remarks about "opening soon"?

mgarblik 05-02-2020 10:31 AM

Jack, I looked at the Summit Motorsports Facebook page and the web site. No brand new information. But Bader really doesn't have to retract anything IMO. He said the track would open "soon" and he could not remain closed the entire season. He didn't specifically say what "soon" is. I believe he wanted to get on record that he wanted to open ASAP and was prepared to take whatever precautions were necessary to do so. Also, that he had a plan in place and could implement it right now. He also wanted the publicity his rant would generate, which it did, (national news). Also wanted to bring into the light the thousands and thousands of non-traditional family businesses that were completely ignored in the various hand-out programs and their enormous economic impact they have on their cities, counties, and state. A personal guess, he will get the OK for a soft opening the last week of May and be open with safeguards in place June 1.

Baytown having a private testing probably tonight if enough cars make it, for sure tomorrow 9-5. Said lots of hand sanitizer, staff will have masks on, prefer to pay with card not cash. Plan an taking the Camaro for a few runs with the different carb and vacuum pump.
