NEW CLUTCH LINKAGE ISSUES
 

i have installed a new z bar, clutch pedal rod, adjustment rod in my 69 GTO and in my 70 GTO. Both are having the same issue, can't adjust clutch and get free play. I have restored several pontiac over the years and never ran into this .
Both cars drove fine before, I installed RA manifolds and exhaust on the 70 GTO, I thought that might be the issue as the linkage stops at the manifold but the stock manifolds are close in that area. The 69 GTO has the same RA manifolds and exhaust also. I even installed old rods and z bar and still the same issue.
Anyone else ran into this ?

What kind of clutch and throwout bearing? I had similar issues on a 67, which required getting a different height throw out bearing and adjustable pivot ball to get the geometry correct. Not an easy job as you might have to put the trans in and out a few times to get it right.

There are two different height throw out bearings both sold as correct for those years GTO's.

Different length, namely a short or long, but there is one that is in between not so often used.

The face of the bearing can be different as seen, so this need to be matched up to the one that came with the kit/diaphragm.

The wrong length, typically too short, seems to be the culprit. Length also depends on the pressure plate used as the widely used diaphragms may raised or flat fingers, then there is the Long 3 finger style, and the Borg&Beck 3 finger style.
