1970 Trans Am
 

A friend is restoring a 1970 Trans Am and I'm helping him put it back together. The car is back from paint and the body panels are all on the car and aligned. The a/c box on the engine side of the firewall has been restored, but has not been installed yet, and the inner fender wells have not been installed either. We're debating on how to proceed. He wants to install the a/c box onto the firewall, then drop the engine and trans in as an assembly. I think we should drop the engine and trans in first, then install the a/c box. Everything is painted and detailed, so we're trying not to scratch or damage anything. Any opinions on which would be best?

Put the box in first. Get a piece of 1/4" plywood the size of the side of the box and fashion something to hang it on the side of the box "just in case" with a rag draped between the box & plywood so the plywood can't scuff the box if it touches.

Box first, make sure the exhaust manifolds are on.

Box, motor, inner wheel wells. Those are gonna be a little tuff.

I choose to put as much stuff in and on the firewall and dash as possible before installing the sub frame and sheet metal
