Hyd roller lifter height?
 

Hi, would anyone have a current Comp hyd roller lifter they could measure seat height on. I assume that would mean from the bottom of the roller to the pushrod pocket.

The number Comp lists is 2.49 inches. From the best I can measure that is almost .250 taller than my really old 857’s.

I was hoping to get by with the pushrods I have but it doesn’t look like that’s going to work.

Comp uses different vendors so the seat height probably depends who they sourced them from.
To accurately measure seat height you’d need a mic with a ball on one end that matched the end of the pushrod you’re using.

Yes, I can borrow a mic Monday to get a more accurate measurement.
How close do you think they would need to be, compared to what I have now?
Push rods usually come in .050 increments, I think.
If I can find lifters within .050 of the original Comps, would that be “close enough” you think?
This is in a pretty mild driver.

ETA, I am replacing all the lifters.

.050 should be ok, you could try different preload to fine tune it if you had to.
Let us know what you find out after you get the measurements

I will. I’m gonna see if I can get measurements from Butler for the other brands they sell. I can always buy push rods, just trying to keep my budget for other things I’ve got going on.

Well Butler doesn’t answer tech questions on the phone at this time. I had emailed them my questions Friday. I’ll post their reply when I get it.
My 857’s measured 2.195 as best we could get it. Comp lists 2.49 so .030 difference. Butler lists HyLift Johnson as 2.71 seat height.

In searching through the many threads on hyd rollers, I saw Dave Bisschop posted they were with in .010 new to old Comps.

I guess the thing to do is just order the Comps & see how close they are.

The pushrods for my Comp Cams roller 400 from this year are .100 longer than what I used for the the exact same engine two years ago. I ASS-U-ME the lifters are .100 shorter than they used to be. Not necessarily fact, just an assumption.

That’s .295” difference, quite a lot.

Yeah, that’s part of the reason I was asking questions. I know that no aftermarket stuff is necessarily built to the same specs.

.295 between new lifters for the same app seemed like a lot to me and almost .500 difference between my old ones and the Hi Lift Johnson’s.

I’d like to get a set of both and compare them but can’t get HLJ’s right now.
