Difference in parking brake assemblies?
 

I have two different styles of parking brake assemblies, not sure of they are both for A bodies or even if both are Pontiac.


Both have the cable connection on the left side of the mounting studs, but one has the pedal arm on the other side of the main stamping, and one has the pedal positioned closer to the centre of the car compared to the other.


Any idea why the difference or if one is not for a Pontiac? Perhaps due to Oshawa build?

I actually have 3 assemblies, one like yours and 2 of the other style.

My Judge was a manual trans and one of the 3 are from it. I have gathered parts from 2 other cars, a GTO and a Lemans, both automatics.

I wonder if the differences are a plant thing or maybe the trans type?...which doesn't really make sense as I don't see why the shape of the pedal arm would need to change.

Just looking at Ames catalog and the replacement 68-72 assembly is same as OG68's.

Now thinking that the different design with bent arms are from Oshawa cars.

Someone on Ebay was selling a pair of mechanisms, one of each style. He stated in his description that the difference was for either a manual or automatic transmission. I've never heard of that before and I thought it may be a vendor/plant difference.

Mine is the same as the top one in pictures one & two, with the mechanism on the "outside". Oshawa built, 4 speed, non-Judge. (may 70 build date)

Also has the angled pedal arm.

In attached pic, there are two parking brakes like what you posted. They are both from 1969 Grand Prixs built in Pontiac MI plant, and only 500 vin sequences apart. The curved arm is the later if the two from a 11A car (auto), the straight pedal arm is 10E car (4 speed), Also have a third 69 GP auto built 9B in same plant with the straight pedal arm. I then looked at a 70 GTO from Pontiac plant built 12A (a year later) and it has the straight arm,

Based on what I have, it is not an Oshawa thing, or auto vs 4 speed. It is likely just an alternate supplier, with both designs being correct
