1964-1965 GTO pinion seal details needed

So factory part number is 9773216. I am getting ready to help replace the pinion seal on both a 64 and 65 GTO. The owner of the 65 says a shop tried to replace the seal twice and twice they had the wrong seal. Not sure where the shop sourced the seal. To make sure we get the correct seal, does someone have the inner and outer diameter specification on the seal? The last one I purchased was for my 70 GTO from an industrial supply source.

SKF says that their SKF 16500 seal is a match for 9773216. Here are the specs: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...842786&jsn=873

I would measure your part and fit the seal to that. If the standard ones aren't fitting, perhaps it was machined at some point or maybe it's a different type of axle than you ordered the part for or ?

... and here is the page from the 1966 MPC stating that seal # 9773216 is 1 5/8" ID and 2 21/32" OD.

Bill, thank you. bdk1976, I will double check when I have access.

Note that the MPC calls out your 9773216 seal AND another, different size seal 9784286 also used on some 64-65 Tempests (and GTOs) as well as full size 66 Pontiacs. That crosses to SKF 19273. Specs here: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...835254&jsn=265
Maybe this seal is needed????

They're cheap enough, order both to have on hand. One of the two has got to fit unless something else is going on as mentioned above,

Just went thu this myself. there are two different sized pinion yokes for 64-65. I ordered the SKF 16500 for my 65 rear end (1-5/8" bore) , which has the following specs:

Width (IN) 0.4
Shaft (IN) 1.645
Bore (IN) 2.656
Outer Diameter (IN) 2.66
Boretite Y
Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 1199566, 1231562, 1362360, 1362857, 1387449, 9773216, 9774408, 9774409.

The other size pinion yoke seal i have seen listed for 64-72 GTOs is a SKF 19273 (1-7/8" bore)

Width (IN) 0.5
Shaft (IN) 1.938
Bore (IN) 2.762
Outer Diameter (IN) 2.766
