04-07-72 ship date. I am partial to 72 custom interior along with late 72 features (belts).

I had to look up...... in 4 1/2 years, put 870 miles on the rebuilt HO. It feels broke in and happy now.

I bet it does. Did you port and polish the heads? What kind of cam? I’ve never seen a 71-72 HO with a roller. I wonder if it makes a big difference. Prolly not with a stock intake huh?

No head modifications. Forged rods and pistons. 10 to 1. CompCam 510/520 lift, 230/236 duration @ .050. I could step up to 800cfm carb (750 now). I think where it is choked is exhaust, in spite of RA manifolds. I'll never put headers on, but they work. It has Flowmaster duals on now so kind of loud. I actually was going to do a medium build and somehow took a fork in the road to this. I like that it looks stock. An open element air cleaner would also add some. I resist a shaker so far, that would work also. (stock dual inlet on it now).

Someone on a post years back had or knew of a later one. Mine was maybe in last week or so?

Another FWIW from my database. I have two each with scheduled build dates of 3/30 and 3/31 and latest ship date of 4/7, right on the strike start.
Makes me wonder what the deal was with shipping out already completed cars. Did the shipping companies dare come on GM property to move out completed cars? I don't know for sure but I'd think they probably did not, honoring the local strike. Anyone know for sure?

My late '72 T/A was scheduled for 3/31/72 build (from top LH corner of the tattered build sheet).
From what I've read the strike was called on 4/6/72 & I too have always wondered about the Friday 4/7 ship outs. I've interviewed workers from Fremont & Framingham A-body plants concerning '71 & '72 A-body builds but never anyone directly effected by the '72 Norwood only strike.

Ric, shipping lots were / are adjacent to, but distinct from, assembly plant property. Once a vehicle is moved to a shipping lot it becomes the responsibility of the trucking company. Not sure how they handled moving cars from one lot to another during a strike however!

72 was a very good year, the 455 had gotten over the 70 disaster and the Trans/Am 455HO was a great motor. Compression was down a bit. Only real problem engine was the 400 with three exhaust manifold bolts, never saw one that didn't leak eventually. 6X heads fixed that.
