Comprehensive intake height list
Fought the heat pulling intakes out of the attic today(97) outside!
These measurements are at the center of the valley front and rear with a valley pan on ruler on carb pad. Ordered a Northwind from Butler and BO. Front/rear SR 72 HO intake 5" / 7" Performer 5 3/8" / 6 1.2" Holley SD 5 3/8" / 7 3/16" Tomahawk 5 5/8" / 7" Torker I 5 7/8" / 7" Torker II 5 7/8" / 7 1/16" RPM 6 9/16" / 7 13/16" Victor 8 9/16" / 8 9/16" M/T crossram Driver side 7 7/16" / 9 1/16" M/t crossram Passenger 7 1/4" / 8 3/16" Warrior Tunnel ram 10" / 10 3/4" |
Hmmm, the Victor numbers are same........I wonder why???
Do you have a stock iron intake to compare??? THat's quite a collection!!! I have most, although nothing exotic or on race side of things. I DO have a SP2P...LOL |
Dam, I just had a BOP in for rework that I could have posted up.
If I had to guess its 1.5" taller then a Victory from what I recall. |
Victor looks pretty level in relation to the valve covers -but in the engine the rear of it is lower so front looks high.

I am going to throw an extra parts motor together to put the M/T on or maybe the Warrior. Have some extra ported 6Xs just debating y old solid roller(heads have Ferrera 5000 exhausts in it) or a HFT I have.
|
77 trashcan if you ever need a source of Aluminum to melt down to block off a exh crossover then that SP2P can finally be put to good use, lol!

I have some junker pistons I will first, though. I got a deal on it, thought about trying it on the 350 currently in my TA, just for giggles I guess i could make the measurement on it, for Skip's list. Skip, are these measurements, with gaskets??? |
Nice list. Thanks, I'm surprised the RPM is so much taller than a Torker II. I knew it was tall but didnt realize it was that tall.

Valley pan- an aftermarket aluminum no gasket but Felpro 90123 RAIV gaskets. Warrior on a motor with a factory valley pan and gasket and similar thickness gasket but standard D port(just sitting on my original 78 400). 400 with my RAIV heads for all the others heads not milled block 0 decked for TRWs.

Not sure how many people care, but i am in the process of installing an Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 on my 462 and figured I would chime in. Since this system comes with the throttle body installed, the measurements are from the top of the throttle body as opposed to the intake flange.
Yard stick laid across throttle body measures 8 5/8" to the front valley pan and 9 7/8" to the rear valley pan. Both measured inside the ridge. Since the throttle body is considerably shorter than a carb I think this is the most beneficial measurement. For comparison, a quadrajet seems to be 3 3/8" tall, so though the intake is a single plane the total height would be very close to the performer measurements above. |
The T2 I measures is actually the EFI one. My others are installed. And yes for EFI TB comer in various heights. a Holley 4150 vs Dominator also changes that dimension. Think a Qjet is pretty close to a 4150.
I was a little surprised the Tomahawk and Holley were different since the Tomahawk is a copy of an SD modified Holley. |
Added Northwind and a new number carb pad. I measured as close as I could to a flat aftermarket valley pan at front and rear from where carb pad actually is. Some of the intakes with an angle will make the rear look higher back to the back valley pan edge so this should give a closer idea of hot high. Be harder on dual planes to get it close to carb with runners in both plenums in the way or the Holley and T1 I can not get near the front carb pad with the material between the manifold and water cross over. T2 I have crossover cut off.
Front/rear SR 72 HO intake 5" / 7" Performer 5 3/8" / 6 1.2" Holley SD 5 3/8" / 7 3/16" Tomahawk 5 5/8" / 7" Carb pad 6 / 6 9/16 Torker I 5 7/8" / 7" Torker II 5 7/8" / 7 1/16" Carb pad 6 1/4 / 6 3/4 RPM 6 9/16" / 7 13/16" Northwind 7 5/16 / 7 3/8 Carb pad 7 3/16 / 7 3/16 Victor 8 9/16" / 8 9/16" Carb pad 8 1/2 / 8 1/2 M/T crossram Driver side 7 7/16" / 9 1/16" M/t crossram Passenger 7 1/4" / 8 3/16" Warrior Tunnel ram 10" / 10 3/4" |
Thanks to Tom S the repop Bath tub we can add.

Nice list Skip. Thanks I copied it. If you get a chance or know some, get the height of a Polar Wind intake.
|
Thanks!

I can probably get the polarwind and gutsram measurements to add. If wanted?
|
I think That would be great.

TraderMike2012 here, "would anybody benefit from me posting my valley pan measurements of my 1967 Pontiac 428 HO with 1966 Tri-Power Rochester Carbs. in my 1979 Pontiac TA"?
|
If I remember I will measure my warrior tomorrow.
|
Gutsram is 10.75 to valley pan
