Jim Wangers turned 95 last week

I noticed that nobody seems to have noted on the forum that Jim
Wangers turned 95 years old last week.......Best wishes to Jim. I assume that
he is nearing the end of his battle with dementia, but what a great life well lived!
I have three autographs inside the glove box door of my GTO........John Delorean,
Smokey Yunick, and of course Jim Wangers!

Happy 95th Birthday Jim. You are one heck of a "Marketing Legend".

Happy Birthday to Jim Wangers. His advertising, marketing, and tie -ins really made the GTO a special car from day 1. Some of his advertising ideas were ground breaking. Like advertising the GTO with only a black and white picture of an empty garage!! Nothing but some ominous text ! This was genius at work. He and his advertising firm were a big part of Pontiac magic in the 60's. Rest well, my friend.

Received my copy of the SCCPOCI newsletter today and there was a nice write-up on the cruise they had for Jim. Hopefully they don't mind my posting the page. Kicking myself for missing it.

A very personable gentleman. Happy birthday Jim. And thank you.

Over the years I have spoken to Jim several times at different shows. Always a gentleman he was willing to speak with me, answer my questions and tell some of his stories. He is definitely one of the founding fathers of our great hobby. Back in the 60's he played a major role in making our Pontiacs and all musclecars as popular as they became. Thanks Jim and happy birthday!

Happy B day Jim...as I just learn how important of a guy you were to the World of GTO's. Just got done talking to Wally Obbermann and explain to me who you were in the pontiac world at the GTOAA met in Wisconsin Dells.

I was just speaking with Wally today here in The Dells.

Jim’s facility is still locked down, but they let him come out under an easy-up and we did a driveby. I tried to get a picture while driving by, but I didn’t time it very well.

Is that Dave Anderson in the picture?

Old Man Taylor 07-08-2021 07:42 AM

I don’t know why it keeps posting the same picture. Here’s the other one.

Nice Pontiac parade for Jim to see! Wish I could do a drive-by in the "Bandit" Suburban- he always smiled when I showed up at Norwalk with it.
