68 manual drum master cylinder color

What's the general consensus on the color of those? Mine in my 68 doesn't look like it ever had any black paint on it. It's all surface rust now, but I would have expected to find some black if there had ever been some on it.

Look at master cylinder on this drum brake 68 GTO in a frame shop from the day. Black painted. Master cylinder for drums would be the same for manual and power assist, the difference being the addition of the vacuum booster

Well bummer. I hadn't gotten any responses and had to pull the trigger on painting it. So I went cast grey since I never found any black on mine. I like it in that it breaks up the sea of satin black. Not going to change it now
