Finally on the dyno
 

After many years waiting the next step in getting my 67 Firebird back on the road happened last month. Initial startup of my motor. Sounded great. But will need to wait until Monday for full break in and a few pulls to get a good power reading. But it started.

Here are the basic specs - 455 +.060 full 4 bolt main
74cc KRE d-port heads flowed to 310 cfm
Edelbrock Performer RPM
H-O-Racing TRW L2359F pistons dished 16cc
Forged SCAT H-beam rods bushed for floating pins
Comp Cam 305-AH-8 cam 108* LSA 253/260 @.050 duration .577/.594 lift w/1.65 rockers

Was happy with the initial numbers. Oil on the dipstick was nice and clear. I'll check the oil filter contents later. We only did two pulls with no timing or tuning changes. Carb might have been a little undersized. So with the EFI and timing control I think they should get better. Peak torque was 593 @ 4100. But what was nice was the logger started at 3000 and torque was already at 536. HP was 528 at 5100. Not too bad for a nice cruiser. Can't wait to get the car paint and on the road. Cal Hartline will do the tuning when ready. Fortunately he just lives down the street and has a chassis dyno in his garage.

I think with the heads and cam you have you are leaving a lot of HP on the table with a dual plane,even a RPM.JMHO,Tom

What would you recommend instead for a street cruiser??? I'm open to honest and helpful critiques. Would a spacer be another option ???

IMO,thats a LOT of cam for a street cruiser.245-252 on a 112 was about as much as I liked driving in traffic.If your going to drive it a lot just use the RPM and forget about peak HP.Tom

Nice build! What carb? Pretty sure you're going to pick up significant power tuning jets and timing

X2 on the cam. That's pretty radical, especially with a 108 LSA. That being said, stick with the Performer RPM and if possible add a 1" space to it.

600 HP engine IMO with the correct induction.Tom

IMHO the 108 LSA will really affect " cruising" unless you like running in lower gears at higher rpm at 45-50 mph.
Pretty "Choppy" at Idle to 2800 rpm.

Nice numbers. I agree with above remarks in regards to H/P. I have two engines 455 .030 that made 600 H/P and 600torque with KRE D- port heads. We used the Torker 2 intakes. Found no difference with the RPM intake. Performed the same. I ran 950 quickfuel carbs on both engines. What carb was used on dyno? What was your compression ratio? What was your total timing?
Timing on both engines was right around 32 deg total for us. I see you have 1.65 rockers. We ran just the 1.5 ratio rockers. Cam we used was SD performance Road paver. 246/252 dur @ .050" lift .608"/.608" lift with 1.52 ratio rockers 112 or 114 lobe sep Only difference we ran Crower solid roller lifters on both engines.
